Q: Soar Throat

I was with a girl and then about 3 or so days later my throat started to really hurt whenever I would swallow. I went to the doctors and he said that it was strep throat and took a swab. He gave me some pills that I am taking, and they seem to be working, but I was just wondering if there was a chance this could be a symptom of hiv and not just strept throat.

Thanks.

What Was the Risk?
Hey, just being with a girl and catching strep is no different compared to being with anyone. Strep is contageous. Most doctors do the swab and send it in for a conclusive finding and give antibiotics as a precaution without really knowing. I've had a strep culture at least 10 times in my life only to get a call from the doctor to say "discard the medicine, it's not strep.

"i was with this girl" has 1000 meanings, so, please reply and clarify by what you mean. Did you have sex, was it a make-out session, did you use a condom, be truthful and you'll get some good advise from plenty of the people here.

Ok, I had sex with this girl. I used a condom for about half of the time, but then took it off half way through.

Year 2005
Here's my point! It's the year 2005 and millions have been spent to educate yourself on the risk of hiv infection. You and I took the same risk. Why? Well, who knows, but i'm with you and i've been there.

Though you did present a risk, it is a very small risk and it is scientifically proven (stats) that men are least likely to catch hiv from a female. Since you used a condom half the time, you may even have half of the risk. Yet, you took a risk.

Do you know the girl? As a precaution, you are advised to take an hiv test after week 13 to determine your status. However, I really don't think you have hiv.

You are more likely to contract another std, or mono, or something treatable. Strep is nothing! Celebrate!

Your symptoms are not consistant with the desiese. God sometimes sends a sign to people. I think you and I have seen the light! Le's make sure we don't turn the light off.

I know. Sometimes I don't understand why we do the things we do. We know the risks and what is out there, yet we turn a blind eye when we're faced with the situation itself.

I called the doctors office to see if it was indeed strep that I contracted, but they haven't gotten the test results back yet. They said to call in tomorrow and they should know. When I get the results i'll let you know.

Thanks for the help and support.

Well ... Funny story. The walk in clinic that I went to to get my throat swabbed seemed to have lost the swabber or something. They said to finish off the medication and then if it's still hurting to come see them again. I would have really like to have a definate that it was just a case of strep throat, but oh well I suppose.

Yeah ... I wouldn't say i'm pissed ... But i'm definately not in the best mood. Is a soar throat even a symptom of hiv? I meen ... The medication seems to be working, but what if it is just a generic medication for an inflamed throat? Should I be worried that it is something more?

No!
No worry! If the meds are working, your doctor aced the symptom cause. Stick with the doctor advise.

Hiv symptoms for most people usually happen around the 4th to 6th week after exposure. Yea, sore throat is a symptom, but it's usually accompanied with some serious other complications. It usually hits you like a truck accident! However, some people have zero symptoms. It all depends on your immune system. It drives people crazy and is one of those infections that you can't diagnose based on symptoms. You must test for it!

Be grateful for your sore throat. My opinion is that you have been given a second chance. Remember, three strikes and you're out!

I don't give a caca if you have to sew the condom on. Do it! Next time, every time, and so on!

help
I had sex with a guy about 7 months ago. I recently had a sore throat and puss on my tonsels so I went to the doctor and she swabbed my throat for strep. She said it was not viral so she pricked my finger for blood to see if it was a bacteria infection, that too came back negtive. She did not give me any antibiotics. The next morning I coughed and the puss came off my tonsels in to my spit and I spit it out. When the doctor tested me for strep did that test also test me for HIV?
