Q: Trying to Lose Weight And Tone Up

I currently work out in the gym 5 days a week. Monday is chest, tuesday is back, wednesday is legs, thursday is shoulders and friday is arms. On each one of these days, I do 45 minutes of cardio on the stationary bike, eliptical trainer, or stair stepper. I also do abs on monday, wednesday and friday. I ususally do 30 minutes of cardio then lift and finish my workout with 15 minutes of cardio. I was told that doing cardio before lifting can actuall break down my muscles and cardio should be done after lifting? Is this true? My goal is to lose fat and flab and to really tone up. I want to go from from flabby to firm. What is the best way to do this? Also, I have had 3 c-sections and a hysterectomy so my stomach muscles are shot, so to say. How can I flatten and tighten back up my stomach? I eat healthy. Lots of protein, veggies, fruit and carbs. I pretty much balance it out with an increase of protein since i'm working out. Can you point me in the right direction to achieve my goal? Also, can you tell me what my target heart rate is? I am 37 and I weigh 170.

You are doing alot of good exercises. The elliptical and stepper is great for losing weight. I think you should do fine. You can up your cardio for faster results. Also, make sure you are consistent with your diet. Make sure you are not gaining weight with your diet int he first place, and the exercise will burn the fat off. Weight training is great, because you are putting on muscle which will speed up your metabolism, and you will get to your goal quicker.

Hi, you are doing very good with all of the excercises. What I do is Monday i do chest, Teusday: back, biceps and triceps, Wednesday: Legs, Thursday's and Fridays I do alot of cardio like the super circuit, stepper, treadmill, ect. Sometimes my program will change a bit and i will do for instance on a monday legs and tuesday i will do cardio. The say your body gets use to the same excercise that you do, so you have to shock it sometimes.

Let me give you an excample of what I do on a normal workout.(eg: legs)

I start with 7 min on the bicycle, just to warm everything up. The levels different from 6 up to 12.

Then I do the machines( I am still not sure waht everything is called, I have a personal trainer that helps me with this). I do normally 5 different machines, adn after every machine, I squad with 10 kg in each hand( I must say that helped alot to strenth my legs). Then after I did all the machines( 3 reps of each and each time your levels must increase) Then I go over to abs( Everyday I do abs) And there is many excercise for abs. Then after that i will go ten minutes on the treadmill on inc 5, speed 9.5. And afer that I will stretch and then I am done.

Wow, it was great reading the amount of time you give for workouts. I am inspired to do something on the same lines.
