Possible Problem
Posted: 05-08-05 10:28am

This is going to sound crazy but I will have to ask you to bear with me on this. In october of 2004 while I was leaving a restaurant I saw what appeared to be an aids patient in a wheelchair near the doorway. The person was wearing a mask over their mouth and both the legs were bound in casts. The person looked in such bad shape I could not tell gender or age. The person was not there when I arrived, so when I left I realized something: first, that I was walking out the same doorway as the sick person walked in since there was only one door, and second, that I had walked out of the same door as a sick person within the same hour. I was worried that if they had somehow gotten any of the virus on the ground, then it would be on the bottom of my shoes as well since I walked on the same ground as the sick person within an hour or less. When I got back to my room I took off the shoes and never wore them again. Then recently, an insect crawled out from under the shoes which I killed with a shampoo bottle. I then put the bottle in a laundry basket and forgot about it. Later, I did laundry and put the wet laundry into the same basket that had the shampoo bottle which I killed the insect with that had been under the shoe. Basically, I am worried that the virus went from the floor of the restaurant to my shoe to the insect that was under it, to the bottle I used to kill it, to the laundry basket, to the wet laundry, and to me somehow. About a week ago I started feeling weird symptoms, like throat muscle pains. I also felt pains in other muscles, some burning, some sharp, and some dull. I have felt pains in my joints as well. I also have had several stomach pains over the last week, some sharp, some dull. Also I have felt cold symptoms. I know this sounds stupid but to me it adds up. If someone would let me know if there is a danger, I would appreciate it.

Hey worried, calm down! For one thing hiv cannnot spread through air, only blood and through intercourse. So no problems there!! Also you seem to be really afraid of germs- almost like a phobia I could say. The virsu did not travel from the floor of the restaurant to your shoe to the insect that was under it, to the bottle you used to kill it, to the laundry basket, to the wet laundry, and to you... Its really inconcievabale.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh but maybe you ahve hypochondria, a extreme fear of germs and diesease but hey I have it too. Not as bad but I do fear alot of stuff. Try to calm down and keep posting on how you are doing

Seeing a person in such a bad condition did scare me into this phobia. Don't worry, no offense was taken :d

Think!

Something else is going on with you! First, you can't look at the person and think they have aids. This person may have had 1000 other ailments that were effecting him/her.

Let's hope this person gets better or has a peaceful journey!

I like the fact that you were worried about hiv, but don't go crazy looking for it. Hiv doesn't go looking for you, ok? You must expose yourself to it, and it's very difficult to get unless you invite a total disregard of your safety and expose yourself to a risk.

Read up on it! However, someone like you is prone to not ever getting hiv because you are aware of it. Simply educate yourself about it and be aware of the condition responsibly.

I liked your posting!

I read you guys's posts and they seem to make sense. Thanks for responding. However, I still have a question. How soon after infection does a person get the white spots in the mouth?
I know its probably useless worrying, but I noticed something in my mouth today and I would just like to know if for nothing else than reference.
Thanks again

Here's Your Answer!

Check it out!

My risk was unprotected sex overseas with a protitute. How stupid is that! I'm talking about exchanging of fluids, you know what I mean.

I ran my life into the ground because I thought I had hiv and every single other symptom.

It started by getting these white spots on my throat. Well, guess what? My daughter, wife and I have strep throat! You could also get white spots on your throat if you have been taking antibiotics for a while (like I have) due to a persistant liver problem (i always had it).

Try mouth wash! If it doesn't help, go to the doc or ionform your parents because I don't know your age.

Congrats! And stay aware and in control of your life. You're a good and honest person!

Well, I see your point about the mouth issue. And, as luck would have it, whatever it was that was bothering me in my mouth has gone away. It seems that brushing my teeth somehow was all it took to get rid of the bad feeling.

Unfortunately, I suffered a bad experience lately. As stated in my earlier posts, I thought that somehow the virus had gotten on my shoe at a restaurant at which I saw a sick person. Through a series of events I came to believe that it somehow got into my laundry basket and onto my laundry. This was disproved by some useful responses for which I am thankful, but now I am confused again. I woke up from a nap the other day to find myself soaked in what appeared to be seminal fluid. The sheets I was under when I was taking a nap were among the laundry in the basket where I thought the virus was, and I thought that the virus had gotten on the laundry, which would include the sheets I was under and the pajamas I was in. So now, once again I am confused. If something opened my skin and fluid came out, could anything go in at the same time? Is this defined as intercourse though I was taking a nap, completely by myself and unaware until I woke up? Some things have happened to reinforce the belief that I am sick such as random pains, armpit pains, etc. As well as mucous in my throat. I dont know whats going on, and I really hate this uncertain condition I find myself in. Answers would be greatly appreciated, please.

Worried about germs:

first, you can not ever even in your wildest dreams get hiv in the manner in which you discribe...Period!

The seaman all over thing is normal for men...Of course i've got to believe it isn't the first time it's happened...Called wet dreams if I remember correctly...Women get them too...Just not as odvious.

I'm really concerned about your very detailed paranoia concerning the germs etc.

This appears to be somewhat debilitating to you, in the effect that you are in what seems like this constant state of near panic over it, the fear must be very intense.

Virus's don't typically survive a washing machine and dryer...That is one of the reasons we clean our cloths...To illiminate bacteria's and virus's that can be harmfull to us.

I would suggest that you see a doctor about all of this, explain what you have to us, and perhaps have him give you an hiv test to sooth your mind, but i'm thinking that you may benifit from some coucelling on this subject...Perhaps in an effort to develop some skills to cope with these events as they come up in your life.

By the way...I don't think your crazy or anything, but I do think you have a very real anxiaty disorder...Which really isn't a big deal, I have several...Most people have a couple...Still...There are ways in which we can minimize the feeling of panic and fear that come with them.

Anyhow...This is my laypersons advice...Seek advice from a dr, as well consider therapy.

Peace

shannix

Virus On Shoe
Posted: 05-19-05 06:34am

Please, original poster, you must realise that you have an irrational phobia of hiv. You cannot get it by having any on your shoe. How do you expect it to enter your bloodstream? Consider this:

- how do you know this person had aids?
- if they did, how did the virus find its way onto the floor?
- if it did find it's way onto the floor and onto your shoe, how would it infect you? Hiv cannot live outside the body, and cannot 'jump' form person to person, especially via a shoe, nor can it go out and find you.

You have wasted a pair of shoes.

If this fact does not convince you that you do not have hiv, nothing will - the virus does not survive for more than a few minutes outside the body.
There. That's it. And that means that it will not be lurking around in your sheets. Please try to understand that the virus can't move, it can't decide to leap from place to place. Even if it could, it would die before it had the chance. So, once and for all - from the activities you describe, you definately do not have hiv. I will repeat. You definately do not have hiv.

By the way, having a wet dream does not count as having intercourse - so don't go boasting to your buddies now.
