Q: Facial Redness- Not Roseaca Though

I'm almost 20 years old. I have had 'rosy cheeks' since I was a baby. I have fair skin but i'm not a redhead or pale looking- I have brown hair (just giving u all the background facts). I just don't know how to get around this facial redness though. I went to a derm. About 4 years ago and he told me I was way too young to have roseaca and that it was the blood vessels just being too close to the top of my skin. Its on my cheeks and chin. I have no clue what is causing this. Eucerin lotion just came out with a redness relief system so i'm trying that. But can anyone tell me what I can do - if anything- to get rid of this. I have friends that have it- but not as bad as me it seems. I guess i'm just destined to where a lot fo makeup. Aahhh

You can get rosacea at any age, althrough it is more common in the 30-40 age group. Unfortunately there are many dermatologists that know very little about rosacea (as there are not that many people with mild or severe cases). There is some more info at the /rosacea website directory

Facial Redness
I understand totally what you are going through. I am 26 and have had facial redness all my life. I went to 2 different dermatoligists with no results. The first one told me the same thing that your dermatologist did about the redness. The second one told me I was too young to have roseaca but it was basically roseaca. Finally, the third dermatologist said it was indeed roseaca but it was rare for people so young to have it. She perscribed fincea cream for me and so far it has really helped! Good luck to you!

Well I was 18 when I got rosacea and I know a number of other people that are of a similar age when they get rosacea.

Reddness That Isn't Rosacea....
This could be hyperkeratosis (or keratosis pilaris) if you do a search on emedicine, just search the internet in general you will see what this is. My son has it.....Rough patches on the back of his upper arms and red cheeks....It is a genetic condition and there isn't much you can do about it other than exfoliate and tx with emollients/creams. There are e-drug stores that sell stuff to tx the condition...You will have to look around and see what looks the best and try and see what works for you. Hope this helps

a Good Product to Try
I have fallen in love with ddf's redness relief. My face can be really red in the summer months (not sunburned, just flushed) and it really calms my skin down. I also use their suncreens. Edit
