I have a friend with lots of back problems
and who always has a huge stockpile of
endocets and oxy, and every once in awhile
(once a month) I would sneak one or two to
take. Then I did some research and
discovered ultram and a web site I could
easily and reliably order it from. I
started just taking them every once in a
while and eventually started taking them
daily. For probably the last 4 months
i've taken about 6-7 a day. Now I have
run out and the site I get them from was
out of them when I placed my last order so
now I am completely out. The only really
noticable withdrawal symptom I have is
that I am having an absoloutely horrendous
time getting to sleep, and staying asleep.
It's been about 4 days since I ran out
and the first couple nights were just
hell, constant tossing and turning - I
probably slipped off to sleep a couple of
times but not for long. Last night was
the best, I think I was so exhasted I just
conked out, but after 3 hours I woke up
for 2 hours, then I was in and out again
for about 4 hours so I feel relatively ok
today. I was taking some unisom and it
didn't help much and I have an ambien to
take tonight. But does anyone know how
long I can expect this to last?

Ultram Withrawal Posted: 07-12-05 20:48pm
Ultram has huge withdrawal side effects
especially if you have been taking over a
prolonged period of time. It is critical
you get off the medication very slowly
because seizures or suicide attempts can
happen if withrawal is too fast. It has
opioid typical withdrawal sympoms
(abdominal
cramps,anxiety,bonepain,depression,insomni
a,lacrimation,restlessness,sweating)as
well as "atypical" antidepressant drug
type symptoms-severe anxiety-panic
attacks, unusual cns symptoms like
confusion,delusions,derealization,paranoia
and unusual sensory phenomenon like
numbness,tingling,ringing in the ears,
hallucinations. You can have one or many
of these withdrawal symptoms.
I took it over 8 yrs and the last 3 yrs at
maximum dosage while awaiting a knee
replacement. I found an expert in this
medication and other ssri's who told me it
would take at least a year to safely get
off this medication. I tried to taper off
it over a week time and all of a sudden
started to think of how I could kill
myself. It is dangerous but the drug
company lies about the withdrawal effects.
There is a study online that is from the
journal of pharmacolog. Exp. Ther. 260,
pgs 275-285 that reports these withdrawal
symptoms and the journal of clinical
psychiatry from 1997 vol 58 suppl.7 pages
11-15 also talks about the antidepressant
discontinuation syndrome. Ultram is both
a synthetic opioid and a seratonergic
inhibiting drug. Put "dr. Ann blake
tracy" in the google search engine and the
method of getting off ultram is the same
as for prozac. Good luck.
