Noises Posted: 11-16-06 15:25pm
Wow, it's so unbelievable reassuring to
finally know of other people who have had
the same problem. I thought I was the
only one in the world whose stomach made
noises...Sometimes it feels like hunger
noises, but below the stomach...Other
times its just unearthly. The worst part
is not knowing what to do about it...I try
not eating, and that doesn't seem to help.
The worst is at school, where I have
anxiety attacks if im in a quiet
situation. Ive been to the doctor several
times...The only thing that seemed to help
was an antidepressant called
elavil...However, it gave me a rash and I
had to stop taking it. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

I also have this problem. It's so
embarrassing, especially when it's really
quiet during class. The noises vary from
small popping sounds to loud gassy whines.
I found that concentrating really hard on
something else, such as reading words or
listening to the teacher works. After
doing this for a year, though, it kinda
wears you out...
I think it just might be an anxiety issue
because the noises only start when i'm
worrying about my stomach. My dad says
that I should just not think about it, but
that's easier said then done!

I have this problem too! Haha I found
these forums while searching on google for
a way to cureee/help it. It's terribly
embarassing. The whole 'not paying
attention to it' thing definateeely works,
but it's really hard. It's like, you're
worried about noises sooo...It makes
noises!
It's even worse when you're hungry also,
so you have two noises to worry about. It
is a chore, let me tell you.

Thanks For the Help! Posted: 12-03-06 01:14am
Hi, I am now 15 in 10th grade and I used
to suffer badly from stomach noises back
in 7th grade. I felt like it destroyed
my social life in many ways. Now, in
10th grade, these noises have came back to
me on a day after I got my haircut. I
remember I was already nervous of what
people would say, and when I kept hearing
"you should of kept your old hair" I felt
worse and worse as the day progressed.
Towards the end of the day in my english
and history classes (the quiet ones
>.<) I heard myself the same stomach
noises 3 years ago. It has now been
about 2 weeks, and even thought I have
only actually made noises a few times, I
feel constantly paranoid about the chance
of even making a noise. I've also lost a
lot of confidence and rarely hang out with
the girls I like anymore. I feel once
again like my social life is
deteriorating, in addition to my grades.
I have made a list after reading this
forum: pepto bismo, exercise, chewing
gum/peppermints, green tea, not overeating
(i was overeating to prevent my hunger
noises, not thinking about my bowel noises
as much), and stop eating bread and
drinking milk (i was eating sandwhiches
and eating cherrios with milk). One more
thing to add about exercise, I really
think this may be a big factor because
since 7th grade i've been really active in
tennis and these noises also started about
a week after my tennis season ended. So
I really do plan to exercise again, since
I had no problems at all during the
season. Another interesting thing is
that I remember that this girl that sits
in front of me sometimes made some stomach
noises (at the time I was unsure) and
before class she would always ask me if I
had gum; I guess I know why now. I hope
this list works and I really appreciate
all of you that contributed to this forum.
Too bad I didn't think of actually
researching this in 7th grade -.-

Suggestion to All Rollercoaster Stomach Problem Posted: 01-28-07 20:42pm
My stomach does make very light sounds. I
discovered that it was mainly because of
my irregular eating habbits. I went
through all your posts and I have
suggestion to make for the rollercoaster
stomach problem. But to all you guys
problems I would suggest this
1) yoga: there are yoga asanas that
allieviate and possibly cure this problem.
So if I were any of you I would
immediately consult a yoga teacher and
tell him my real problem.I would then
learn the asanas/pranayama technique from
him and practice it regularly. Note: yoga
asanas are to be learnt only from a
trained teacher. They are not to be
followed by just reading on the internet.
For more information do a google search
for yoga asanas for ibs problem
2) have a regular diet. Do not skip
breakfast/lunch/dinner.
3) journal whatever you eat. Try to find
out which particular food is causing the
problem and try to avoid it.
Hope it helps!

thank you very much, it looks like you
know what you talk, i'll check out about
the yoga you wrote.
I was just wandering if anyone would know
if there is any other kind of treatment
like acupuncture, hypnosis, etc. Since
this problem is coming mainly from ibs,
and it is not really curable, so maybe
this natural things could help.

I found this forum while searching for
"stomac noises" on yahoo....And when I saw
that other people have the same problem
and i'm not the only one with a stomac
wich makes loud noises I felled
releifed.
The same problem for me too: every time
i'm in a quiet place my stomac starts
doing loud noises(like gazez and
flatulances) and its freaking me out. I
noticed this 2 years ago and from then
every day at school its like a torture.
Now i'm 15 and nothing changed. Togheter
with the noises I have flatulances. But
the strange thing is that I never have
flatulances at home only when i'm school
or somewere else where are people outside
the "circle" of family. Now at school,
when I sit down I sit on my jacket and I
turn it around me(its a big jacket because
in my country is still winter and cold
outside) so that when I have a flatulence
I can release it and the others can't
smell it( I don't know what i'm gonna doo
at summer). But even so my stomac makes
noises...Even if I eat regulary....Even if
I drink something in that
moment...Nothing....And its quite
shamefull
when in that silence your stomac makes a
loud noize...And when I wake up on my feet
it doesn't makes any more noises....I
can't remember anymore those times when I
was going to school with pleasure....When
I could stay calm and knewing that
everything is alright.....I went to 2
doctors and I folowed and finished 2
threatments.....But none of them
worked.....
And one day my mom took me at a
specialist, a gastroento...., I don't know
anymore. And there the specialist made me
a radiography(like at pregnet women) and
she found out that I have the sindrom of
iritated intestin(the big one)....She gave
me a treatment as well but it didn' worked
as well....And I spoked with that doctor
what should I eat....And she sad : "eat
every thing you like, but especially many
cereals and fibres".....And she also sad
to me that they can't do anything about it
and that people are being born like me and
I must live with that......
I can't wait to finish school and have a
job...
If someone knows a remedy that really has
an efect please post it here....
Thanks and be happy...

Yep, the Same Thing Posted: 03-05-07 00:43am
so... let's start with the obvious, i'm
really happy that there are other people
that have the same problem as i do, but at
the same time i'm not that happy 'cause
until now there isn't a real cure, so my
"stomach" noises because i think they are
more colon noises than stomach noises,
well it started back in january 06, i was
in class really calmed and i just starting
feeling and hearing like little bubbles on
the left side of my stomach, i was really
nervous, i didn't know if someone heard
it, but i was nervous for nothing because
since then it started getting worse, i
actually wish the noises would have stayed
that way, now they are like gas but inside
my stomach even when i try to let it out,
nothin comes out, that is why i didn't
know if it was gas or someting else, i
went to the doctor he just told me that it
was a disorder and with some medicine it
will be fine, but that didn't work, then i
went to another and he gave me more
medicine and told me that if that didn't
work he would give me an antidepressive or
something like that, well i havent got
that medicine but i'm thinkin about going
back with that doctor, because i still
want to try somethin else, a friend of
mine also told me that it might me just
gas and i started taking carbotural, and
it helped me for 1 month or so, but then
the noises came stronger,
my noises can start since the moment i
wake up until I go to bed, i'm not in
college because of it, i'm too scared to
take a test since my last one turned out
to be really embarassing, i had to change
what i wanted to study, and my mom jus
doesn't get it and keeps pushing me to go
to college, i'm really nervous about it,
and i dont know how much it can really
ruin my life, i'm afraid that i wont be
able to be in a class room and i really
want to start learning about my career,
something that i do and it helps for like
a couple of hours is that i eat and then i
wait and go to the bathroom, at the same
time, every day, but it doesn't last all
day, so keep posting please...thanks, hope
that everybody's stomach is fine

um, try this.
1) eat a good-sized, healthy, non-sugary
breakfast
3) drink a glass of water after every
meal
4) cut back on the sugar and maybe a
little on the milk.
it helps smooth the digestive system.

Try This Medicine, It Works Really Well!!! Posted: 05-13-07 23:01pm
omg, i feel like all of you guys are
discribing me. I had all the same
problems. extremely loud stomach noises
(expecially during tests). It was soo bad
and embarassing. I tried a bunch of
things, avoiding milk, wheat ets. Nothing
helped.
Finally, a docyor, my aunt actually, gave
me a course of medicines called flagil.
ITs for worms in your digestive tract. I
know it sounds super gross, but they arent
like giant wirms or anything, just tiny
little bacteria liek things. Anyway, i
think it is called de-worming, or
something.
it helped with the noises, stomach pains,
diareaahea, everythigg. IT also helps with
acne. so try it atleats. hope this helps
atleats one of you

I Thought That I Was the Only One With This Problem. Posted: 05-13-07 23:04pm
I don't like going to class everyday
because I know my stomach is going to
makes sounds. But I am in a program at
school that allows me to take an exam
outside of class. After I stated taking
test away from my classmates, my scores
improved. Most colleges have a disabled
students program. My Dr. says my stomach
problem is a disability. Anyone who is a
student that is going through this same
problem should try to see if your school
has this program. It helps me out a lot.
Some people think that I'm a slow learner
because I'm in the program, but I am a
biochemistry student I'm not slow at all.

I've had many of these same problems.
Some things that I've found to be very
helpful: glass of red wine before bed
(this has had some amazing positive
effects); vigorous exercise (ex. swimming
and lifting weights); an anti-biotic to
clear out the bad bacteria followed by a
ton of probiotics (which my doctor said
was fine to take a lot of); prevacid to
shut down your stomach acid pumps;
lowering your stress/anxiety through
medications if need be.

Stomach Noises - Sorry This Is So Long Posted: 07-26-07 01:02am
Found this by searching Google. Thank
goodness for this forum! I have the EXACT
same problem. I’m not sure if it’s a
problem that you either have or you
don’t, and I’m not sure if there’s a
“cure” per se…but all I know is that
it’s downright embarrassing, and I
thought I was the only one ever to have
this problem. I’m so sorry you all
suffer from it too. I’m not sure if
it’s the kind of foods you eat or not. I
eat junk food a lot, but that shouldn’t
cause this! Noisemaker, thanks for your
suggestions, I may try them. I hope
they’re able to help everyone else
here!
I’m just terrified of silence!!! I try
to talk, shuffle around, and just make
noise in general to cover it up. I love
the summer because the air conditioning
drowns it out (I call it “saving” me),
but I have a horrible problem in class
during the winter when it’s quieter.
It’s gotten better in the last year, but
it’s embarrassing because I have to keep
going to the vending machine at break to
get food to keep it quiet, and even then
it comes back after awhile. My parents say
to just eat more, but even when I eat it
still groans! If stress if a factor, it
happens at home when I’m not around
anyone and not stressed or nervous! The
noises are weirdly different though.
But it’s especially bad when I lie down
and my stomach is flat. When I had surgery
while I was awake, I actually had to
pretend I was hot in an already-cold room
(it was summer though) to get them to turn
on the air to cover it up. One of the
nurses was like “I’m not hot at all!
It’s sort of cold actually.” UGH. It
ruins me. This started when I was in 9th
grade, never used to happen. I’m skinny,
but not anorexic, and I do eat a lot most
of the time. My dad says it happens to
everyone, but I’ve never heard anyone
else make the noises I do. I’ve been
told you are the only one that can hear
your own stomach making noise, but I’m
sure that’s not true.
And I don’t wanna explain it as, “Oh,
I’m just hungry.” It makes noises even
when I’m not hungry, and if I say I’m
hungry, people may judge me and think
I’m anorexic because I’m so skinny.
And the weird thing is, sometimes I
don’t hear it when I’m not thinking
about it. But it always kicks in around
lunchtime, and then settles for a few
hours, then starts up again. I can’t
wait to get out of school and get a job
someplace where it’s busy and there’s
noise. UGH see how this has taken over me?
This really ruins my life. I can’t go to
meetings, exams, or anywhere where it’s
quiet. But I actually got through the
whole Harry Potter movie without any
noises…it was weird because that’s a
heckuva long movie.
I really always thought I was like the
only one who was scared to take exams or
go to class because of the prolonged
silences. I thought I was really strange
to be THINKING about silence. I’m not
sure what’s causing it, but I hope to
find out! It’s definitely not caffeine,
because I absolutely despise coffee! I’m
a vegetarian, by the way. In the end, I
think it may depend on the individual,
because some people seem to have fixed it
with their diet, while others seem to
think it had nothing to do with it. But I
think we all share anxiety in common.
Point is, you all are not alone! I feel
like we should all just have a big group
hug. We shouldn’t have to go through
this. Not fair at all.
But I think we can’t let it ruin our
lives. A career is way more important than
a bit of embarrassment (okay, a lot of
embarrassment, but I still think it’s
worth it to take a job you love even if
there’s going to be a lot of quiet
situations). But a big thanks for everyone
on this thread for sharing, and for trying
to help each other out. You all rock!

a Few Things You Can Do... Posted: 09-05-07 14:02pm
I have learned a few ways to make the
"stomach monster" a little less ferocious.
I eat oatmeal every morning. Oatmeal is
thick and it coats your stomach and makes
it REALLY quiet. It's really good before a
big test, you can even eat it in the
middle of the day.( Cream-0f-wheat also
works) Secondly, drink sprite or 7-up. I
sip on it before class and not only does
it calm my stomach but also helps my
nerves. Thirdly, drink water throughout
the day. I have noticed that when I keep
myself thoroughly hydrated, I don't have
the noises. Also, drink room temperature
drinks instead of with ice, it's better
for your digestive track. DO NOT take
anit-acids or other OTC drugs. They can
make the noises worse after they wear off
because your body produces gas for a
reason and it will make more gas to get
the job done....so your just making the
problem worse in the long run. Lastly,
EVERYBODY has problems with these noises
sometime in their life...most people just
don't care. I know my mom has it and she
couln't care less about it. It's part of
life just like sneezes and coughs. Don't
be hard on yourself if your tummy does
make noise. I hope this helped:)

Thank you for replying, Stephii! And
thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to try
it. Summer has almost reached its end, so
not much more time with the
air-conditioning gig. Oh well, just one
more year of high school. I'll try to
figure out something to help it in college
- perhaps, like one other poster on here,
I'll list it as a disorder and ask to take
my tests at home.
I hope oatmeal works! It sounds like a
good idea. But just one thing about Sprite
and 7-Up: whenever I drink any kind of
soda, the carbonation - I dunno - causes
my throat to just make these really weird
croaking noises, like right before you
burp. It's incredibly annoying and
uncomfortable. I'd say it does it about
once every minute for 10 minutes after I
drink Coke, Sprite, anything. Just my
weird side effect of drinking soda!! LOL
But yes, water does help, I've noticed!
Thanks for all your help!! I know a lot
of people have these problems, but the
people who came to this board, like
myself, seem to have it on another level,
at the same time as being incredibly
self-conscious about it. Not a good mix.
But still, I'm really going to try to
overcome this! Thanks again!!

hey guys,
I've had the same problem problem for the
last few years but never consulted a
doctor. I have recently taken the decision
to do something about this & meet 2
doctors as I wanted more than one opinion
on this.
Both doctors advised me that the noises
from the stomach are natural but
unfortunately some people have frequent
problems with this, like me. The bottom
line is there is NO CURE for this.
Both doctors suggested a change in diet to
help reduce the noise & the gas
produced in our stomach.
here is a some info my Dr forwarded to me.
he also suggested I have pepermint based
drinks which also helps. I hope this
follow info helps you guys aswell, some
feedback would be good so we know it
works.
Symptoms
Passing wind is normal, but the amount
varies between individuals and depends on
a number of factors including diet. Some
people pass wind only a handful of times
per day, others up to 40 times, while the
average seems to be about 15. Symptoms of
excessive (or embarrassing) flatulence
include:
* Passing wind often
* Smelly flatus
* Loud flatus
* Abdominal distension and discomfort
* Rumblings in the lower
abdomen.
Causes of flatulence
Intestinal gas is a normal part of
digestion. The gas is produced by
different means, including:
* Swallowed air - the mouth isn't
vacuum-sealed, so small quantities of air
are swallowed along with food and liquid.
The oxygen and nitrogen from the swallowed
air is absorbed into the bloodstream from
the small intestine, and any excess is
allowed to continue its journey through
the bowel for expulsion. 'Air-swallowing'
often occurs in people who are anxious.
* Normal digestion - stomach acid is
neutralised by pancreatic secretions, and
the resulting interaction creates gas
(carbon dioxide) as a by-product.
* Intestinal bacteria - the bowel
contains a host of bacteria that help
digestion by fermenting some of the food
components. The process of fermentation
produces gas as a by-product. Some of the
gas is absorbed into the bloodstream and
breathed out by the lungs. The remainder
is pushed along the bowel.
* High fibre foods - fibre is
essential to the health of the digestive
system but it can create excessive gas.
The small intestine can't break down
certain compounds, which means extra work
for the gas-producing intestinal bacteria,
and accompanying flatus. High fibre diets
should be introduced slowly to allow the
bowel sufficient time to adjust.
* Lactose intolerance - the body's
inability to digest the particular sugars
found in cow's milk will produce excessive
amounts of intestinal gas. This is because
the bacteria of the gut digest the sugars
by fermentation, a gas-creating process.
Common complaints
Some of the more unpleasant or
embarrassing problems with flatulence
include:
* Loud flatus - this is caused by the
muscles of the bowel forcing air through
the tight ring of muscle at the anus.
Suggestions include passing the air with
less power, and reducing the amount of
intestinal gas by making dietary
adjustments.
* Smelly flatus - the gas produced by
bacterial fermentation can smell,
depending on the food eaten. Suggestions
include limiting common culprits such as
garlic, onions, spicy foods and beer.
* Excessive flatus - this is caused by
swallowing air, eating high fibre foods,
lactose intolerance or some digestive
disorders. Suggestions include reducing
the amount of intestinal gas by making
dietary adjustments and seeking medical
advice.
Foods to limit
A healthy diet requires plenty of variety.
Foods that tend to produce large amounts
of flatus also contain essential nutrients
and shouldn't be eliminated. Limiting
their consumption is a better option.
Examples of foods that commonly cause
flatulence include:
* Dairy products - such as milk, if
lactose intolerance is present
* Dried fruit - raisins and prunes
* Fruit - apple, apricot, peach and
pear
* Foods high in insoluble fibre -
particularly seeds and husks
* Legumes - beans, peas, chickpeas,
soybeans and nuts
* Vegetables - carrot, eggplant,
onion, brussels sprouts and cabbage.
Laxatives and flatulence
Many laxatives - including lactulose,
sorbitol and some fibre preparations -
also cause flatulence and should not be
used regularly except with medical
advice.
Reducing intestinal gas
Suggestions to reduce the amount of flatus
include:
* Limit common food culprits.
* Don't suddenly increase the amount
of fibre in your diet.
* Reduce milk consumption if lactose
intolerance is a problem.
* Consider taking charcoal products or
other over-the-counter preparations.
Seek medical advice
Some digestive system disorders, such as
irritable bowel syndrome, can produce a
sensation of excessive flatus. See your
doctor if you experience unusual
flatulence, abdominal pain, changes to
toilet habits, or any other uncomfortable
symptom associated with digestion. Lactose
intolerance can be diagnosed by a biopsy
of the small intestine. This procedure is
done by a specialist using an endoscope
(camera attached to a thin flexible tube).
The patient is given a sedative.

Excess Wind Posted: 10-06-07 03:10am
Although it doesnt stop it completly
taking tablets like windeeze o stop
bloating and trapped wind does help. Stay
off fizzy drinks and take a spoonful of
indigestion medicine too. My biggest
problem is the burps - they smell
disgusting like bad eggs and that what I
cant get rid off. Any suggestion would be
appreciated.
