Q: Looking to Try the Shot...

I recently found out after I had been experiencing dizziness, chest/leg pain, and bad headaches that I have a blood clotting disorder and will never be able to take birth control containing estrogen (i was on the patch). My only option is the shot but my older sister was on it and had bad experiences with it...However, she's now on the patch and has no problems and I do realize every body is different.. She gained 17 pounds (which was so unusual because she has always been 90 lbs!) i've also read on the internet that many people have had horrible experiences and that it leads your body to believing you're going through menopause! I'm very concerned about weight gain...I am very in shape (i work out everyday!) and just recently got myself to my ideal weight (110 lbs) so... I'm definately not looking to get fat or gain any weight for that matter! Lol. I would appreciate it so much if anyone could give me any personal experiences...Bad or good? Thanks :d

I'm due for my second shot tomorrow and I am defiantly not going to take it.

So far I have had horrible headaches, stress and mood swings, a 2 week long period (and after that, constant spotting) I gained 7lbs and I generally feel horrible and depressed all the time. It really isn't worth it in my opinioin

I loved not having a period! But the mood swings and weight gain were not worth it! Everyone has different side effects- but if you can try something else- I would suggest it! Gl

Depo

I have been taking the depo shot for 9 years. When I began, I was 112 pnds, I am now 165! I have tried everything, but was unwilling to give up the shot because of problems with my mentruation. I had no real problems for several years. I slowly gained the weight so I learned to live with it. Now, I have excess hair growth, never had it before and my doctor cannot explain except to say that as I have aged my hormones are reacting differently. I have now decided to switch to another method possibly seasonal, so we'll see. Honestly, I would still recomend this method to someone, yet I would say to avoid prolonged use. Like I said, the first three or four years were fine.

I was on it for about a year and a half, loved it. However I did gain a bit of weight and my b/f said that I was having a lot of moodswings. I was snapping at everything. I also was tried all the time. But for the most part it was a great method and I felt safe on it :)

I had been on the shot for 3 years and I loved it. I had no problems at all, no weight gain. The only side effect was that I stopped having my period, which I actually loved. It was 100% effective, I never had sex using a condom. The reason why I have now switched to the patch is because my doctor refused to give me the shot because I had a bone mineral density test done and it showed that I had a "thinning of the bone" which is caused by the depo. I didnt take calcium supplements like you are supposed to when your on the shot, so its my own fault. The damage is not permanant though so its alright. I would definitly recommend the shot, but just be sure to take calcium supplements every day.

I was on the shot once. I was sick the whole time and miserable. I had terrible mood swings and the weight gain was terrible. I do not recommend taking the shot as it also causes bleeding. My sister took it 2 times and she has been bleeding since she had it and that is now for 6 months straight. They use this to sterilize men in prision.. So.. You can just imagine what it does to females. I have been trying to get pregnant now for 2.5 years and had no luck and they are now starting to believe that it is due to taking the depo once. I do hope that it is not true as I am getting married soon and we would love to have a family. Anyways please read everything that you can about this shot and make the best decision for you as to taking it or not taking it. If I were you I would try something else. As for not period while taking it... I had my every mth and like I said my sister has been bleeding since. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

The way you'll respond to the shot totally depends on how you behave when you're pre-menstrual. If you're totally fine, no mood swings, and don't get headaches and the such, then you'll probably be fine on the shot!

I have been on the depo for now 4 years I have tryed every thing out there and I cant use condoms.I love it I mean I might have gained a little weight from it but I think it is the best thing ever.I always hated the rag and how guys can diss me on it.But now they cant.So yeah I really like it when my friends ask me about what they should go on I always tell them to go in the depo.I have been on birth control ever sence I was 10 so I know how every thing out there works. :lol:
