Pressure And Pain After Gallbaldder Removed Posted: 04-20-05 19:21pm
Hi there-
on march 2nd I had my gallbladder removed.
My common bile duct was enlarged at the
time but no stones were found there.
For about the last 3 weeks I have been
having pressure in my right side. I
explain it as it feels like something is
in there that is too big or someone is
trying to push their way out. Recnetly
it started causing some pain around my rib
cage in the front and back. What do you
think this is? I have a dr apt on monday
but I didn't know if I should wait until
then or go to the er? I figured if it
was something major, I would be dead by
now?
Any info would be great.

I had gallbladder surgery a few weeks ago.
My surgeon said to expect pain off &
on for 3 months. It's a good thing
though you are going to the dr monday. I
would not hesitate to call the surgeons
office & talk to his nurse & tell
her what kind of pain your experiencing.
Of course now it's the weekend so their
probably not around... I had a pain
scare last week & called my surgeons
office. He had me go in for blood work
& x-rays to make sure there was no
internal bleeding etc...
Hope you feel better soon...

Thank you- that makes me feel better.
Nobody really told me what to expect after
surgery. It makes me very angry as I
called my surgeons office 2 fridays ago
the nurse said I should be seen just to
make sure everything is okay and I called
to make an apt. Of course I had ot leave
a message which nobody returned utnil that
monday. My surgeon was out of town until
this coming monday so I have had to sit
and wait. I thought about going to the
er a few times because the pressure was so
bad. I was scared I was bleeding also
but I figured if I had been bleeding since
march 2nd that I would most likely know
about it =) I am thinking now that either
there are stones in my duct (which they
did check for but maybe missed) or they
bruised a rib or something. I sure hope
it is nothing that requires another
surgery. I dont care what anyone said,
that recovery was a lot worse than anyone
let on it would be! Of course it didnt
help that my bathroom is up 17 steps! I
was just glad I didnt have to stay the
night, after all, I have no health
insurance! I sure hope your recovery is
going well! Thank you so much for your
reply, it really did ease my mind to know
that you were told to expect pain that
far out; perhaps I should pass on to my
surgeon that he should warn his pt's as
well. I will let everyone know what I
find out monday just so people know what
they can expect.

Hi there... I had my gb removed on march
10th so i'm right behind you... Wonder
how you are doing now and what you found
out at the doc's office??? I still had
lots of pain in the sternum area when I
saw the gastro doc a couple of weeks ago
but now it's even going away! Am on
nexium though... Last pill (samples)
tonight... Gonna see if the pain was
surgery recovery pain related or was
gastritis.... The nexium helped or was a
coinkydink and I was still healing...
Gastro doc said like my surgeon that the
magical time to really feel way better was
3 months post op! So i'm 7 weeks postop
yesterday.... That would make you 8...
:)
