Went Off the Patch - No Period!
Posted: 04-20-05 19:16pm

I've been on bc for almost three years now - 18 months on ortho tri, and about 16 months on ortho evra. (i switched for insurance reasons.) even before I went on bc, I always had very regular periods.

Anyway, I should have gotten my period last tuesday morning - at least, that's when I would have gotten it if I were still on the patch. But I haven't yet. I have had a clear discharge that *feels* like i'm getting my period, but nothing.

And i've gained seven pounds in two weeks! (i always gain a few pounds the week before my period but not usually two weeks in a row. However, the mexican food I had for dinner might account for the three pounds this week. Lol!)

anyway, i'm waiting to take a hpt (because I am freaking out.) my fiance and I had sex twice since I went off the patch and both times we used a condom, so it seems highly unlikely that I am pregnant. I guess I just want to know if anyone has experienced anything similar, and do you honestly think i'm pregnant?

(ps no tender boobs, nausea, or any other symptoms)

thanks

I read recently that because the hormones are absorbed through the skin and some are stored in the "fatty" tissues, it takes longer for them to be released than if you were on the pill. In essence, you may have some residual hormones left since you stopped putting on a new patch. The chances are very slim of a pregnancy especially since you used protection. I wouldn't worry too much. Also, if you're under a lot of stress, that could throw you off. Not continuing your patch regimen could throw you off slightly. Diet changes could have an effect. So many things impact our body, it really could be anything at all. I don't think you're pregnant if that makes you feel better. I'd wait a little while, relax about it, and then take a hpt. If it doesn't come in another week after the test, take another one and then schedule to see the doctor.
Best of luck!
Peace,
jenn

I have had the same problem as well. Before I started bc I was very regular. I was on varoius bc for over 9 years and recently stopped. I didn't have a cycle for 50 days and my gyno put me on provera to start my cycle again. Now it has been 36 days again and no sign of starting. I guess my body is confused since it relied on the bc for hormones.

If you are that concerned about it by all means take a hpt. What ever you do, do not go longer than 3 months with out contacting your gyno. They will probably run some tests to make sure that everything is ok.

Hope this helps....

Hope I start soon, hard to try to get pregnant if you don;t have a cycle.

Thanks for the reassurance. And I do have fatty tissue for storage ha ha - i'm about 25 lbs overweight now and started exercising heavily a couple of months ago - who knows if that has anything to do with it. (although I have always exercised regularly, i've upped the intensity greatly.)

Did I Mention I Went Off the Patch?
Posted: 04-20-05 21:14pm

I just realized i'm not sure if I said that I have been off the patch for a month and this would be my first period off the patch.

Okay, now I reread my original post and it might look like I just went off the patch last week but a whole month has passed with no patch whatsoever...
