I didn't see this anywhere else, so I hope I didn't miss it, but I really want to know once and for all what the difference is between swollen lymph nodes or glands and cancerous lumps? I have a lump on my neck right beneath my jawbone in between my chin and my ear. It's grown larger since last week it seems. It moves when I touch it and it doesn't hurt. But none of that means anything to me because I don't know the difference! Please please help me not to freak out. I'm a complete cancer-phobe.

Hi Sweetie! Me Fairy*Godmother
Its ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry. The sooner you find out to eliminate that it could be cancer, the better off you will be. If it were me, I'd go ASAP and have a physican tell me what it could possibly be, rule out cancer. Does not sound like cancer, but if in fact is should be, you caught it, and beating this means the odds are in your favor. If you allow it to go unchecked, if it were something bad, it could spread and kill you. Please go and have this looked into. When it comes to things of this nature, its not soemthing to play with! Please keep in touch and let us know!

swollen lymph nodes
Hi,
my 21 month old daughter has swollen lymph nodes just like the ones you described. She has been quite healthy except for her swollen neck. We had a sonography done which told us nothing. And had an oncologist look at it, who said that he doesn't think it is anything to worry about as the lump is moveable - cancer usually "grows" into all the neighboring tissue...
But he also said that to be a 100% sure it is nothing malignant, the lymph nodes need to be removed.
