Q: Want to Stop Depo, But Have ?s

I have been on depo for 10 years on and off. The longest time period being 4 years (this time) and I guess after all the reading I have been lucky in some forms. I didn't have the bleeding like others, all though that first time I got off depo to get pregnant with my son I ended up with cysts (?) that broke and emergency surgery (excuse the spelling). The second time I got off depo to get pregnant with my second child it took less then 6 months and I was pregnant. This time ive been on depo for nearly 4 years and I am thinking about not getting my next shot (may 19th) because I would like to experience the sexual side of life with my husband. The loss of my sex drive some would say is because of having kids, but I dont think so. I mentioned to my gyno about it she told me to try avlamil and after 1 year of 45.00 a month and no results I gave up. The mood swings I dont want them anymore. I have a little time to think, but I am rare when I say I hope I dont get pregnant for the next 2 years if I stop. Im 26 now but I like life with only 2 children (1 boy and 1 girl is perfect) and ready to start the family vacations and fun with the ages they are (5 and 4). Any suggestions as to what I should do?

Have you thought about an iud? Sounds like that might be perfect for you. The mirena iud is a really good one...This might be a good choice for you. Once placed, you can leave it in for up to 5 years. It contains hormones and most women stop getting their period altogether. There are very few side effects. You're covered from the moment it's inserted and can enjoy "freedom" to have sex whenever you want without worries about getting pregnant. I'm pretty sure it's 99.9% effective. In all honesty, it's the next best thing to having a tubal. The people at your insurance company can tell you whether or not it's a covered benefit...It is expensive! But, over 5 years it pays for itself.

there is also a non-hormonal iud called paragard that can be left in place for up to 10 years. This one is a little cheaper and basically has the same effect. I think more women report bleeding with this brand however.
