Hi

my brother in law just passed out and was taken to the emergency room. Last night he was complaining of blurred vision and an extremely bad headache. Does anyone know what these may be symptoms of?

Sounds like a migraine (my grain)

symptoms are:

the aura

visual disturbances – wavy lines, flashing lights, blind spots (scotoma)

dizziness

numbness

slurred or muddled speech

nausea or vomiting

diarrhoea

the headache phase

thumping or throbbing headache

pain on one side (may swap sides)

pain in the sinuses or neck

dehydration, thirst

sensitivity to light (photophobia), noise (phonophobia) and smell (osmophobia)

cold sensation

pins and needles

temporary numbness on the affected side

inability to think clearly or perform normal activities

loss of concentration

lack of co-ordination

post headache

a feeling of being ‘washed-out’

fatigue

poor concentration

either lethargic or full of energy and revitalised

My Son Had Several Similar Experiences.
My son had similar experiences between the age of 16 and 25. A neurologist diagnosed the condition as basal (sp?) artery migraines. On several occasions we thought he had died. He is in his thirties now and just has plain old migraine headaches.

Migraine
i had an episode at work where i was perfectly fine felt well infact on top of the world. suddenly i got a massive pain in my lower left jaw, then came blurred vision and flashing vision. I passed out and suffered from slurred speech, felt like someone was crushing the left hand side of my brain. I had pins and needles in my left hand side leg and arm. I honestly thought i was dying at the time. It didn't last long but it took a good two days to get my strength back to normal it felt like i was completely wiped out. the hospital said it was a migrain. I never have suffered from migraines or headaches.
