Tried a Couple Antideprnts. Then Zoloft-can It Work Already Posted: 04-15-05 23:33pm
I was on lexapro for 3 months. Didn't
seem to help with the depression but
helped my anxiety. Made very so tired
and drowsy that I couldn't continue to
take it. I then tried effexor xr for
close to 6 weeks -75mg- and it didn't seem
to work at all. Made my anxiety worse.
Then the Dr. Put me on zoloft at 50mg.
I took it the first time today. About
and hour after, I felt very sedated but
much more calm. Then, about 4 hours
later, I started to feel great. It is
weird. Could zoloft work this fast,
after just one dose? I am asking this
because I went directly from one med to
the other. Anyone experience this?
Thanks.

Effexor is a multiple reuptake inhibitor.
At 75mg it would act like an ssri, so if
you made a direct switch to zoloft then
the mechanism by which seritonin is
inhibited may still have been in action.
It is really difficult to tell. Some
people find zoloft stimulating which in
helps their mood, as side effects are
usually immediate effects. Just give the
zoloft a chance and see how you are in a
month.
A question though... Effexor is usually
used only after ssris have failed, as it
affects other nuerotransmitters once you
up the dose. So why did your doc not
just up the effexor?

Thx jazzman. We talked about upping the
effexor to 150mg but the effexor had been
making me extremely anxious. To the
point of no return it felt. When I was
on lexapro, it took care of the anxiety
but not the depression. So, he thought
we should just back off of the effexor and
try zoloft. He said he thought this was
my next best option.
It really seems to be working after 4 days
though. I just didn't think I would
notice a change so quickly. Definitely
tell for sure in a month. Thanks again.

I WAS ON PAXIL FOR SEVERAL YEARS. I HAD TO
MAKE A CHANGE CAUSE MY BODY BECAME IMMUNE
TO IT, BASICALLY I EXHAUSTED IT TO ITS
FULLEST. ANYWAY, I WAS THEN PUT ON
EFFEXOR, WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!!!! I HAVE
JUST BEEN SWITCHED TO ZOLOFT AND I SWEAR
ONLY BEING ON IT FOR ABOUT 4 DAYS I FEEL
SOOOOO MUCH BETTER. I THOGHT IT WOULD TAKE
AT LEAST 2-3 WEEKS TO FEEL ANY CHANGE. IS
THIS ALL IN MY HEAD,WISHFUL THINKING? I
HOPE NOT. IS THERE ANYONE ELSE THAT HAS
HAD THIS SAME EXPERIENCE? PLEASE LET ME
KNOW.

HI i am on zoloft and have been for about
6 months now. I started on 50 then went to
100 and i am now on 200. Zoloft is a very
good pill but it is not for everyone as it
does have some strong side affects when
you first start them. A friend of mine
tried them but was put onto something else
as it made her worse. So i guess you could
say it is horses for courses. Each thing
works diffrently for other people if it
works keep with it if not move on.

their product?
