Q: Will keloid go away?

I have had a huge keloid since first grade when I had open heart surgery.

The doctors tried to remove it but instead it grew back even bigger. I am sixteen now and I still cant wear anything other then t-shirts because everything else is too low and its an embarrassment for people to see it. I have been using scar-so-soft for about a year and a half now and still not much improvement. Do keloids go away to the point where they arent really noticable? What can I do? I am at a loss. This is extremely frustrating so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much

Keloids do not usually just go away. Have you consulted a plastic surgeon? Sounds like you would benefit from a z-plasty. There are also new strips of scar reducers that are over the counter. A plastic surgeon I work with uses them on his patients. I can't remember what they are called, but they are clear sheets of collagen (i think) that you apply and leave over the scar for a prolonged period.
