Q: Ganglion Cyst Surgery

I'm a musician who has no health care, though I am currently on charity care. I have a dorsal wrist ganglion and can only get in to see a plastic surgeon that does hands too. There is no orthopedic surgeon in my area taking new patients!

Does anyone know if this should be fine having the plastic surgeon do the operation. It seems fairly common. My only trepidation is that I don't want to risk too much with hand surgery since it my hands earn me my money!

Has anyone had dorsal ganglions removed from the joints? How long was the recovery?

Thanks a bunch.

Lisa

Yes, a hand surgeon/plastic surgeon is more than qualified for a cyst removal. I get ganglion cysts in my left wrist. I pop them myself because I can't take time off the have the cyst sac removed. But you can rest easily, the plastic surgeon knows what he is doing. He will be more sensitive to watching for nerves than an ortho guy anyway!
