Hello. I am 20 years old. I never ate vegtables until only a few months ago. I had my first salad at 20! Hard to believe. ...Its true. Throughout my adolecense and teen years I only ate junk food and fast food. Now that I am trying so hard to have healthy eating habits, I have chest pains.

My doctor said it is acid reflux. The pain is sometimes weight on the left side of my chest but mostly sharp shooting pains, also on the left side of my chest. Usually it feels like its on my breast.

Its been going on for 3 months. It goes on and off. Sometimes continuously for hours and hours. Sometimes it goes away and will come back after a week or two.

Last time it started I also had a lil weird feeling..A lil pain in my lower left back.

I also experienecd tingling in my feet.......Its gone now...But would bother me alot before.

I told my doctor and she said it was acid reflux..

I always tell her when I have new symptoms, and she says i'm just anxious and paranoid. She offered me antidepressants...And said anxiety causes chest pains...What I feel.

What about the tingling in my feet? She said it could be the medicine i'm taking for the reflux.

I haven't told her about the pain in my back, i'm too embarressed b/c whenever I tell her, she says i'm anxious.

I don't want antidepressants. I don't believe I need them at all. I just want some tests ran or somethng...All they did was take a blood test for chemicals in my body..But from my pancreas, stomach, liver which all came out normal.

I was wondering, does any body know if there is a way to check if it is definately acid reflux? An xray or something?

She just checked my heartbeat.

Opinions and advice appreciated...

There is a test to identify acid reflux.. It's called and upper gi scan.. You swallow some liquid (not bad taste, but nothing you want to drink for breakfast).. And they place you on this table and you are basically in this big x-ray machine. Then they have you swallow stuff and you can see on the x-ray how your body reacts.. If the liquid comes back up or not. I had one done several years ago, i've been suffering from heartburn since I was 18-19, i'm 26 now. Heartburn can give you chest pains.. I actually was misdiagnosed with asthma because it was getting up into my lungs. Try watching your diet and see how it reacts.. Stay away from spicey and acidic foods. Lettuce always gave me heartburn.. Can't eat too many oranges, etc. Lots of tomato products like spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce can aggravate it as well.
What kind of doctor are you going to? You may want to go see a gastroenterologist to give you more specific care.

Hey thanks wakkochic...I asked my doctor about that g.I. You told me about. She said that's possible but she doesn't think I need one. I've changed my diet to no caffine, no chocolate, no acidic juices, lots of fiber and fruits and veggies...Grain...Good stuff...Since last dec. And I still have it. For some reason I doubt her, since she won't give me a g.I, and the pain is shooting pains centeralized in my left breast, i'm going to see my gyno. Anyhoo..Thanks again....
