I was diagnosed with endometrial polyp and a cyst on my right ovary. My doctor suggested hysteroscopy to remove the polyp...Help! I'm just 23 and scared...Do I have any alternatives? What causes them anyway? Thanks!

Is that the same as polycistic overian syndrome? I am polycistic (sorry about spelling) which means you have cists on your overies as well as a few other things. Anyway I had my overies drilled. It is really common. I was scared that I couldn;t have kids but I now have 2.

A hysterectomy seems pretty radical. I don't know much specifically about your condition.. Especially the polyp, but I would maybe see about getting a second opinion or doing some online research into different procedures. Maybe it is the only treatment for the polyp, however I would ask around as much as possible first.

I would definitely get a second opinion about having a hysterectomy, I have a cyst on my left ovary and will be having it removed shortly by key hole surgery, they only do hysterectomys if there is any sign of cancer or if you are older and at risk of developing something more serious later, from what I have read on the nhs website (im in the uk) a poylp can be removed by the same method so please do get another opinion before you submit to anything as radical as what is being suggested. Good luck and keep in touch

Whoa!! No, not hysterectomy...Hysteroscopy. It's a scope that the doc puts in the vagina to enter the uterus to remove the polyp. It's a simple outpatient procedure...Not major surgery or anything.

If you're not experiencing any problems, you could leave it as it is not a life threatening thing. You would want to get it removed before trying to conceive however. An endometrial polyp is just an unusual growth inthe lining of the uterus that can happen to anyone really. It would definitely be ok and safe to go ahead with the hysteroscopy if you want to.

removing the polyp isn't a hysterectomy it is a hysterscopy it is a out patient procedure i am about to go in for the same thing i also have large cyst on my ovaries that they are monitoring my doctor told me it is a verry common procedure and fairly quick so dont be to alamed and ask your doctor what is exactly involved it will help u feel better and more relaxed when the time comes to do the procedure
