All people and all countries are f-ed up as you say. I find it very offensive that you say our country is f-ed up like we are the only ones. Which is more f-ed up: the fact that our country has laws that make your spouse in charge of your healthcare, or the fact that people in other countries (as well as this country) think it is any of their business whether terri lived or died?
If you don't want your spouse to be your guardian then get a living will stating who is your guardian and have your spouse sign it. That is all perfectly legal. If a parent has to decide whether or not to take their child off of life support, should that be an international issue? Should the parent (the legal guardian) not have the right to do that?
Or should the general public who never met, doesn't know and never will know terri, be able to decide her fate?
I'm not saying that her husband did what she wanted because I wasn't there when these decisions were made. But, neither were any of you and that is why it is none of our business! People always stick their nose where it doesn't belong and that will never stop, but I personally find it pretty pathetic. No offense to any of you, I am posting about this also. I mean the people who sign petitions, picket, etc. To keep terri alive when for all they know she wanted to die!
If you don't trust your spouse, your one true love and light of your life to carry out your wishes if you end up in a situation like terri's then you shouldn't have married him/her! You can't pick your parents, but you can pick your spouse! And this ultimately becomes the person in charge of your care if you become disabled, ill, in a coma, or brain dead. Someone has to be in charge of it, and I don't understand why you find it so "f-ed" up that it is the spouse. Should it be the next door neighbor instead? Or should the general public just take a vote and decide that way?
