I had my dr's app wed night the baby's
heart rate was 156 bpm strong and healthy.
My ? Is the dr said there is some
testing we can do to predict birth defects
but sometimes they come back with a false
positive. How many false to neg positive
results are there? Kinda scares me. He
said if it comes back positive we can do
an amnio to find out maybe what defect and
then decide if we want to terminate or
continue the pregnancy! Anybody have to
make these descions? Im so nervous urgh!

That test is completely optional. I
didn't have it done. My doctor gave me a
whole bunch of information on it, and it
says that false postives are very common,
as well as false negatives. I really
don't see the point. If you think it
will give you peace of mind, then go on
ahead hun!!

My doctor didn't even give me an option,
he did the tests anyway. But I have
heard of a lot of false positives...My
cousins turned out positive for I think
spina bifida and she went and had the
level 2 ultrasound all throughout her
preg. And they told her that they baby
would have spina bifida, but when he was
born, he didnt' have it, he was completely
fine...

The real question is, if there is
something wronge with your baby, are you
going to terminate the pregnancy? There
is no reason for you to get the test done
if the answer is no. Even if you take the
test is comes back positive and there is
something wronge with the baby, you will
have worried about it through out your
whole pregnancy and stress is another
thing that could cause your baby harm. So
dont take it!
