Hello everyone. I am hoping someone can give me some help with this. I have been suffering with hives and peeling fingers and toes for 5 weeks. It started out with the tips of all fingers and toes becoming very hard. Then got 1 hive. Four days later got another hive. In the meantime, fingers and toes still peeling. I had bloodwork for everything and it was all normal. I then broke out in them everywhere. They got so bad that I had to get a shot of cortisone. Also taking benedryl. Tried zyrtec and clarinex, they both did nothing. Only the benedryl works. Went to an allergist who said it's food related. She can't test me yet until the hives are gone she said. Went to a dermatologist who looked at them and said they were a latex allergy. However in the past 5 weeks I have studied everything I have touched, ate, came in any contact with. There is no pattern at all. No new anything at all. And food allergies do not explain the peeling fingers and toes. I may have had contact with latex 5 weeks ago, but not at all since then. I am aware of all the things latex is in. But, I still continue to get the hives although they are much better than before. Also, I had a cousin who got hives 2 years ago, she had them on and off for 1 year, then they dissapeared and have not come back. Any info or thoughts on this would be geatly appreciated. Thanks.

If it's just the hives, they can come for a different number of reasons-- stress even being one of them-- Since your symptoms aren't going away I'd contact your doctor again.

My daughter's fingers peel every fall. I took her to countless doctors who could never explain this to me. They would peel til they were raw! Then one day, I showed them to a nurse practicioner at my Dr. and she said it was allergies. As it turns out, every time her fingers are peeling, my asthma is at it's worse - so, it is, in her case, allergy related and probably to things in the fall air such as mold related.
