Hi ya kitty! I can't answer for me, as
that was years ago and I had to take the
ortho novum.....But as for my daughter who
is 20....She loves it! She was on the
pill for almost 2 years. Sometimes she'd
forget to take it and then have crappy
bleed thrus. Since starting the shot,
which last for 3 months, she has virtually
not had a period!!!!!!!! Oh happy day!
Where was this shot 26 years ago? Other
than a normal shot, her arm is a little
tender the next day, but she has had no
problems! Lot more convenient too for the
same price as a pack of pills. I hope I
have helped you some!

I have taken both, the pill and the shot.
I was put on the pill in order to regulate
my cycle. I was really young and was
still a virgin for a couple of years after
I started taking the pill. The pill was
really hard for me to remember to take and
you have to take it everyday in order for
it to work. I had no problems with the
first type pills that I was prescribed.
The doctor changed my prescription because
I was getting older and needed a different
level of hormones. This pill caused a
chemical imbalance and I went through a
major depression. I was taken off of all
birth control, I was only 15 at the time
and by this time, I had become sexually
active. I got pregnant. After birth, I
was put on the depo. Shot. I bled for 14
months straight. I was taken off of that
for 6 months and then I tried again. This
time, I bled for 9 months. I also had
really bad mood swings while I was on the
shot and I lost my sex drive. I gained
alot of weight too.
I know that everyone is different, but I
can not take anything with hormones in it
because my body cannot handle it. I have
an i.U.D. Now. Its this "t" looking
thing that is inserted in your cervix and
it stays in for ten years. It is like an
obsticle course for sperm. They usually
die before they ever reach the egg. It
also has no hormones so you will not have
mood swings or gain weight. It is
effective as soon as it is insereted and
it can be taken out easily in about a 15
minute procedure. Why don't you ask your
doctor about having an i.U.D. Put in?

I've heard bad side affects from depo...I
didn't get any, but I did get pregnant.
I would never go on this again, because 1)
they make you feel you are totally safe
right away 2) weight gain is highly likely
3) once it's in your system, it's there
for 3 mo and the side affects will last
that long. The pill is much better, and
as far as remembering it, you just have to
set up a good time that is good for you to
remember, but i'm not saying its perfect
cuz I took 3 about 3 hours late. I was
told that this shouldn't cause any
problems, but i'm being safe, until i'm
set back on the right time!

Well, so far I have had cramps almost
every day. Mostly just little annoying
ones, but sometimes they get bad. I'm
not sexually active so this for me was
just to regulate and get rid of my
cramps....Not doing its job too well.
I've completely lost my sex drive, which
although my boyfriend is dealing with it,
he isn't too happy. It's to the point
where thinking about doing anything at all
sexually is a turn off. Its different
for everyone, some of my friends are doing
fine on it, but as soon as my three months
are up i'm off of this and on the pill.
Hope this helps a little.
Oh and there is also the fact that you can
do anything from spot to full blown
menstration at any point during the month
with no warning, plus the mood swings
suck.

I hate the shot.. Absolutely hated the
shot.. It made me bleed for 3 months
straight and I mean heavy bleeding.. If I
would have got another shot it I would
have bled for 6 months straight and then I
would have stopped at the third shot but I
wasn't willing to bleed for that long so I
got on the pill after the 3 months of
bleeding and found it was alot better.
Also the first month of bleeding made me
feel really weak since I was losing so
much blood.. This happened to my sister
as well. It does not happen to everyone
but just know its a risk before you get it

I lost 15 lbs on depo. I never got my
period or bled... No headaches or cramps.
However, I am clinically depressed with a
history of eating disorders and
self-mutilation. I was doing quite well
mentally up until I got the shot. For
many weeks, I could not understand what
was happening until I remembered about the
depo. It made me insane - so depressed,
ocd, moody, etc.
If you have a history of depression or
related diseases, I would recommend you
not get the shot. However, the rest of
the side effects were not a problem for
me. It just depends on your chemistry.

I gained 40 pounds on depro and only got
the shot 3 times. I was always very moody
and mean. I would cry one minute, scream
one minute, and be happy for less than a
minute. I also had a light period from
aug all the way til dec. I wouldn't
recommend the shot to anyone. If you are
happy with the pill, stick with it. The
shot will be ten times worse than any
symptons on the pills!

I haven't had any side effects other than
i've been bleeding for over 6 weeks now!
I just started the beginning of january
with the shot. It is definitely nice to
not have to remember the pill! I was
taken off the pill though because the
estrogen was messing up my system. It
was giving me yeast infections in which
nothing would cure! Since i've gone off
the pill, it went away and hasn't come
back. I just hope my period will
eventually do the same!

I've just had the depo injection, just
over a week ago. Before that I was on the
pill for 3 years, but now doing shift work
makes it practically impossible to take
the pill at the same time everyday, so it
was out.
I talked to my doctor about all the
options, and depo was best, or the iud
which has exactly the same hormone in it
as the depo, just in a lower dose, but
that was more effort . I had the
injection 1 day before my period was due,
my period came and went normally, just a
bit lighter. I've had no problems at all
from it, so side effects what so ever.
I think some people are a little more
sensitive to the hormone changes than
other people, but I think better testing
should be done before hand so bad
experiences from birth control dosent
occur.

Well, I am not on any b/c. So I dunno.
But my friend is on the depo shot and said
the side affects are horrible~ weight
gain, pains when you either just take the
shot or a few days before you go to take
it, hot flashes, night sweats (sounds like
menopause!), attitude changes!
I think i'll take the pill even though
i'll never remember to take it!
Love,
chanda

I was going to switch my birth control to
depo after my daughter was born in august.
But I have heard way to many bad things
about it. Extreme weight gain in excess
of 30 lbs. Not worth it to me, I will
remember the pill over gaining 30 lbs!
The iud sounds like a good option. That
was what I was going to choose, but not
many insurance companys cover it. The
cost can range from 300-500 just for the
actual iud and 200-300 for insertion.
Very expensive but can last from 5-10 yrs
depending upon the iud. Copper can last
up to 10, hormone can last up to 5.

I got the shot in january and was it the
worst mistake of my life. It's only been
3 months and I have been bleeding like
crazy. I have no desire to have sex.
Nothing turns me on. I feel so sorry for
my husband. Also, I am so depress all
the time. My second shot is soon due.
Do you think I am going to get it? H#$*
no!!!!! I want my life back.
