I smoke, drink some water (more recently) and like eating green veggies, like asparagus, broccoli, green beans (veggies higher in iron)---I've also been told that I have gallbladder sludge and when I'm stressed it makes my back ache.
I take a lot of suppliments and I always by the bargin brand. I just started taking a new brand of alpha lipoic acid . lately I have been noticing a burnt rubber smell about an hour after I take 'em. These are plastic caps I think you are on Hasto something. This problem has led me to this web site.
Just got back from Urologist..................if you are not drinking about 2 liters of water a day, you are dehydrating yourself. If "pee" is clear to faint light yellow, you are drinking enough water..if its dark yellow, or dark in color and has an odor, you are NOT drinking enough to stay hydrated. You poor liver has to filter everything that passes through your kidneys...........back aches are sometimes caused from not drinking enough water..........drink and pee, drink and pee, drink and pee..............get it almost clear and your gall bladder problem should clear up as well. OH and for the record...............please try to kick the cigarettes to the curb. Hardest thing I ever did was quit 15 years ago.............some folks let htem get the best of them........its up to you....you gonna let those things CONTROL YOU?????????????
I guess the smelling like rubber is the closest thing i've seen on here as to explain what I am experienceing. It seems to come and go and happens no matter what my intake of water is. I just moved to Pennsylvania from New York City and this never happened when I lived in NYC. I was worried that maybe it is the onset of diabetes but there is nothing sweet smelling about it, it is very musty or rubber smelling it's worrying me.
well i can relate with some of you but not with the asparagus or the smoking or the drinking....my symptoms are a little different, recently i began noticing that my urine started smelling very strong like metal in a way, and its appalling to be honest...gross! i began to think maybe it was the lack of my drinking water, and when i began doing so it helped a little but now its back , and i even have a kind of light burning sensation when im peeing, and also when im towards the end of peeing i feel a pain right bellow my belly button... i have been submitted to the e.r before for urinary tract infections more than once, do you think this is the same thing just a different version of it? i hope im not one of the few people with chronic urinary tract infections...yiiikkkes! but help!
I started eating a high green diet, and asparagus is definetly a major part of my evening meal. I notice the smell of melting plastic in my urine is really strong afterward, so the asparagus is a go for those that have it regularly in their diets. Also if your drinking beer the hops in the beer are "detoxifiers" just like the anti-oxidants in asparagus, and green tea, especially for the kidneys.
I just read this forum and from time to time I get this really strong odor when I pee. I always thought it was a metallic like smell but then when I read some people refer to it as burnt rubber, I can see that too. I just ate a whole bunch of asparagus for supper tonight so in the future I am going to see if the smell occurs when I am eating asparagus!
I also was alarmed by the rubber smell. I know what asparagus does to your smells, but haven't had it in years.
So I narrowed it down to browned onions as the culprit for the burnt rubber smell.
I agree that the smellier the urine, probably the better for your system of the riddance.
Yes, this was interesting for me to read, because I have had a real agervating time with my uethrea being irriatated and finally came to the conculsion of ORANGES, apparently oranges really really, irriatate the bladder in some people, as the Dr. said what you eat you also URINATE OUT, alot of people forget that I think. PURE 100% cranberry juice not cocktail and green tea, yes. These all help the bladder work correctly. It is amazing what we don't realize until it happens. When I eat Sugar Puff's I get this actual cereal smell in my urine, use to be like WHAT???? Then I know realize, especially people who are sensative, must watch what they eat, because even spicey food can cause very major irritation to the UT. Of course always have your dr. check. However, my Dr. said so many people have re-occuring UTI, when in fact they aren't that it is their diet, shampoo's, soaps, all this can effect your UT, and YES your URINE SMELL! Just a thought, take care all.....
I had asparagus for supper Friday night and Sunday night, and my urine has been smelling like melting rubber. After reading the above comments, I am going with that as the explanation, because besides these two meals, I haven't had asparagus in a while, and I haven't been able to pin it down to anything else.
to ioumz01 from 2006, first i pray all of your ailments have been cured. I have noticed my urine and more recently, my stool also, smell like rust or iron. As far as i know, i am very healthy, overweight (quite a bit) but other than that i have no symptoms of any kind. My last doc. appointment showed i was as healthy as i could possibly be. a few pvc's, but fish oil takes care of that and i don't take it very often. Thank you for posting your
question. It has been the only thing i have been able to find on line that matches my symptoms. I hope this message finds you happy and healthy.

YES, Asparagus can effect the smell of your urine!
Yes Asparugus, can make some people urine smell. The smell varies. Some folks have complained that it made their urine smell like "rotten flesh out of the earth". Whereas some folks complained that it smell like burnt rubber! But, the point is...YES, asparagus can effect the smell of your urine!
So glad I came across this forum after searching on the internet for my awful smelling urine problem. Sounds disgusting and does indeed smell disgusting but I can honestly say I am relieved as I have only recently started noticing this problem and only recently started eating asparagus! There is no doubt in my mind that asparagus is the root of the smelly urine problem for me. Sounds as though people on here may have a few other causes but I can certainly vouch for asparagus as being guilty as charged for the offence of causing smelly excretions...
Hi I am concerned about an issue that I have, Im 43 years old and my urine smells like ammonia right out of a bottle its that strong. I am worried that something serious may be happening with me , I have been having some discomfort in my lower back and the tops of my legs near the groin area. can anyone shed some light on this please!!!!
My urine will also smell like ammonia quite frequently. Sometimes I have a frequent urge to urinate. I have had numerous urine tests that come back normal. At times I have pain towards the end of urination, when bladder is almost empty. I have been taking cranberry extract and drinking so much water and this does seem to help. I definitely need to drink 8/8oz. glasses of WATER per day to eliminate this problem. Increase your water intake, not just fluids, but water and this should help. I have also read that a diet high in protein and low in carbs can cause this smell, which is more of how my diet is.
I have been suffering similar symptoms of strong smelling urine. Stomache cramps and feeling sick. My sister at work said that my urine smelt like some sort of chemical, sulffer. I have had urine tests and no infection. I am due for full bloods today at doctors. And I am waiting to see an urologist. This has been happening to me for over a year. I'm now getting worried as I am loosing weight and I think it's because the goodness from everything I eat is being lost through my urine.
I had this symptom and ended up being hospitalized with a severe kidney infection. My pee smelling like burning tires was the only symptom I had (and I had it for the better part of a year) until I collapsed on the side of the road. I had gone in to be screened for a bladder infection and it came back negative. So I just lived with it thinking it was dietary in nature. I was driving across the state when all of a sudden I had sharp pains in my side, then started shaking, then couldn't walk... I had to be ambulanced to the nearest hospital and was in ICU for 5 days as they were fighting to keep the keep the infection from my blood stream which would have been fatal. My kidney was swollen to the point of rupturing it was so full of pus. I had a kidney stone keeping my kidney from "draining" and an infection, so I'm not sure if the smell was associated with the stone or the infection. I had no other symptoms beside the smell! It was so bad my husband would gag if he was in the bathroom when I peed. Go to the docter and get checked for both. I almost died.
i have recently had a rubber-like smell to my urine. i only drink water (about 6 large water bottles a day) and i have not had asparagus in quite some time. i occasionally will have lower back pain (in my sides) ..as well as my upper hips, almost like a slight cramping. i do smoke about a pack of cigarettes a day. i'm just curious if anyone has came across a cure or diagnosis for this. please help!!
