Q: Doctor Screw Up

I am 1 week complete hysterectomy, when I decided to do this it was suppose to be a partial unless they found something wrong with the overies. The morning after sugery the dr tells me that he mistakenly clipped the tube in the wrong place and had to inadvertantly remove the overies, not just 1 but both for whatever reason (there was nothing wrong with them) he tried to pass it off as a good thing and now I dont have to worry about ovarian cancer, but now have to consider hrt. I am really upset by this fact and dont know if I should just consider a good thing and go on or should I confront the dr about the mistake he made.

I had all of my fallopian tube removed on both sides. The doctor cut as close as she could to the ovaries without actually cutting into them-the same for the uterus side. I still have my ovaries and uterus. I don't see how cutting the tube in the wrong place warrants removal of the ovary. I would consult another gyn for their opinion on the subject. I think you will be able to yell at your doctor.
Let me know if I have been of help to you.

This surgeon messed up! I would ask for a copy of my surgical report and have an attorney that handles malpractice to look at it. I have done hundreds of hysts and salpingoopherectomies, and the excuse he gave you is bogus. Sorry :(

I forgot to tell you that just because he removed your ovaries doesn't mean you aren't at risk for ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer can appear on the tissue that surrounded the ovaries. That is why you still have pap smears after a hysterectomy.

Ummm actually pap smears have nothing to do with ovarian cancer.
You only need to have pap smears after a hysterectomy if you kept your cervix. Paps check for cervical cancer and without a cervix there is no risk of cervical cancer.
Ovarian cancer will only occur in the ovaries. You might get a cancer in the surrounding tissues but it will not be ovarian cancer.

Please ladies only post from your experience - no-one can say without a full investigation that your doctor did screw up but can say it sounds like he did.

No matter how experienced someone here says they are you should always follow up any advice with your own doctor

Thanks
Thanks for the replies they have been a great help but ....Cervix...What cervix, the dr decided when he accidently cut the tubes to close and remove the overies that he may as well remove the cervix as well. I am consulting with an attorney as I spoke to my prior ob/gyn and he strongly recommends against hrt due to high family rate of heart disease and breast cancer and that for a bladder tac he cant see removing anything other than possible the uterus.

Sounds like that doctor just pulled a fast one on you. Now, instead of billing for the hysterectomy, he can bill for the bso. More money for him now.

Pap After Cervical Cancer
I believe that after cervical cancer, it is standard procedure to still get pap smears, even if you've had a hysterectomy.

Hi i'm new here, I would really question exploratory surgery if it were me. There must be other ways of diagnosis. I don't know much about it but i'd google around the internet for days & read as much as I could before allowing this. If you want to go alternative then read up on bio-resonance. The machine can test every organ in the body by looking at the quantum energy around the body, it depends what you believe I suppose but I had it done once and it picked up everything that was right for me & I had not told the health practitioner anything beforehand.

i had my hysterectomy almost six years ago. I was left with just my tubes and ovaries, women are still in need of paps after this procedure
just not as often as women that are normal. You are right she should follow up with a doctor.
