Q: Got a Question..

Hi. I'd like to say that i'm 18 and do not have any cancer of any forms, but I rather had a question. I remember when I was younger I used to get a lot of sun burns and did something very stupid 2-3 years ago. I would go out in the sun at noon with my face covered in water and try to tan. I did it for one weak intensive for like 2-3 hours a day. I also went outside a lot without sunscreen for the whole summer. I kinda did it too once or twice the summers after that, but not as much. Some summers though I would just stay insinde and play computer all day without going outside even once. My question was: are my chances of getting a skin cancer very high now or I have nothing to worry about? I know that it did not help for sure but I just wanted to know if i'm pretty much sure of getting one now :(

Hi bh90! Do you have pale / freckly skin at all?? If so then I would definately go have your skin checked out by your gp asap. Or you can check into a skin cancer clinic anywhere in your area as most of them bulk bill! Because you also went into the sun when you were younger, it is definately best to have yourself checked. Unfortunately melanoma is one of the deadliest and most unknown cancer at present and is very unpredictable. Mine was dormant for 10 years and when it came back, some tumors tripled in size over a month while others stayed the same. So I definately urge you to go see someone - also spread the word and have your family and friends check themselves out. Best of luck to you!

I have a question. It has nothing to do with skin cancer, but this is the only place that I could find that came close. I was wondering if anyone knows why you should not get the smallpox vaccine while you have exzema. I got the smallpox vaccine(for military purposes), but I was not affected by it. I did not get the live small pox on my arm where I was administered the shot as I was suppose to. I did have a slight case of exzema on my leg when I got the shot, but I was told by the tech. That it would not affect the shot . I'm just wondering why you shouldn't get the vaccine while you have exzema? The exzema has gotten worse and i'm wondering if it is related to the vaccine?
Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thank you
