Q: Herpes Or Yeast Infection???

So i've been diagnosed with a yeast infection in the past. I'm male, by the way. And they've always just told me to use antifungal cream. And using cortizone just made it worse. Now i've been getting somewhat different symptoms. I got red blotcy areas every now and then and sometimes red bumbs. I didn't use the antifungal cream first, I used the cortizone and by the end of the day the bumps and the redness went away. I talked to a friend and have been doing some research and the thought of herpes crossed my mind.

I don't know or have ever read anything about getting symptoms of herpes, like the red bumps, putting on cortizone cream and, poof, by the end of the day no more symptoms. I'm just trying to get a second opinion as to whether or not I could have herpes. I just figured herpes' symptoms would stick around after putting something like cortizone on....

I also had a blood test done for herpes about 3-4 weeks after I had sex and had a chance of catching anything and the test came back negative. Could 3-4 weeks have been to soon to get tested? I mean i've heard of getting outbreaks within 2 days of contact with it. Thank you very much for your time.

Topical cream treatment of herpes is largely ineffective and is normally not prescribed. Moreover if the anti-fungal cream did not include aciclovir it would not have any benefit.

Blood tests for herpes often return false negatives, which is why a scrapping or puncturing of an active infection site is preferred.

Often creams of any type put moisture back into the skin which clears up a variety of problems associated with dry skin.

Based on your description it is unlikely you have herpes.

Yes, it could even be exzema(sp?) as I know corizone even helps with that. You can't just get any antifungal cream for the yeast infection, you would have to get a certain kind which may be why it hasn't been working. I mean, I know that as a woman if I got a yeats infection, cortizone may take the itch away for a little bit (if it didn't burn to high heaven) but it wouldn't do anything for the actual infection.
If it is the yeast infection, the red bumps could be from the infection getting into your pores and hair folicles. It happens to women too especially if they shave down there. I would go back to the doc and get a cream from him/her that will actually be effective and ask about the bumps when you are there.
