Q: Colonoscopy During Pregnancy

I'm a 33 year old mother of two small children and i'm 17 weeks pregnant with my third!! :d unfortunately, I went to see a specialist to discuss problems with my colon (ie. Bloody stool, long-narrow stool, etc), and he recommended a colonoscopy. As you can imagine, I am very concerned for my unborn child, and what's most frustrating is that I cannot find any statistics on the risk of miscarriage from this procedure. Is there anyone out there who can shed some light on this grim scenario???

Many surgeries are performed on pregnant women with no effects to the baby. With a colonoscopy, which is a minimally invasive procedure. It can be done with or without any anesthesia. The use of anesthesia would be the biggest concern for the baby. However, anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists go to school for a really long time to know how much and what to give a pregnant woman. Did you bring up your concerns to your doctor?

Colon Surgery During Pregnancy
A week ago my doctor performed a colonoscopy on me and found a large, ulcerated tumor. The biopsy showed that it's benign and because of my age, 29 years old, my doctor does not believe it to be malignant. However, he referred me to a surgeon to have it removed.

Seven days after the colonoscopy i've found out that i'm 6 weeks pregnant with my first child. The surgeon says that it's imperative I have the ulcerated tumor removed immediately and he's not willing to wait any longer than 3 months due to the cancer risk.

Does anyone know the risk to the fetus from having major colon surgery this early on in a pregnancy? I can't seem to find any information on this subject.

Thank you!

Colon Surgery During Pregnancy
Hello,
I was 21 weeks pregnant and had colon surgery, my entire large intestine was removed, and I was just wondering if anyone else out there had had this type of surgery during pregnancy.
Thank you.

Colonoscopy in first 3 weeks of pregnancy
I had a colonoscopy three weeks into being pregnant, not knowing I was pregnant. I did the prep and was given Versed for anesthesia. What, if any, are the possible side effects or ramifications to the fetus?
