Wegener's Granulomatosis Posted: 10-08-05 16:33pm
No, wegener's granulomatosis is not
infectious.
At this time researchers do not know if
the disease is caused by environmental or
genetic factors. Some doctors believe
that the wg patient has a genetic
disposition to the disease and that an
environmental factor such as a virus,
bacteria, or chemical started the
auto-immune dysfunctional process.
Canada is doing some dna studies with
families who are related to wg patients to
see if there is a genetic component to the
disease. The study is not complete, but
will be interesting when the research is
done.
If you are interested in more information
about wegener's granulomatosis, go to the
wegener's granulomatosis association site.
They have a lot of good information on
the subject.
I was diagnosed with wegener's
granulomatosis in march 2003.
