I recently had a bunch of dental work done, and I am now suffering tmj like symptoms. My teeth hurt, I have ringing in my ears, stiffness in my shoulders, and sore gums. This is all contained on my left side. There are times when the pain is severe and the ringing is driving me nuts!! I have been to my dentist, an oral surgeon, my regular md and a tmj specialist. The speciaist says that I have tmj. I have dental work left to do, but my main question is if my bottom molars are missing how can I be grinding my teeth. I know that tmj can be confused with trigmenial neuralgia and I have no insurance. Is there anyone out there in a similar position? Please let me know what you have encountered.

Re:
Twisted Evil that is how I felt when I heard what you were going through. When it happened to me, I was 14 years old and having my wisdom teeth out. Unfortunetly the dummy didn't believe me when I said I had a small bite. He pulled my jaw out of its socket as well as spraining my face, neck and upper back.

It was several months before any sign of relief came. It has been 8 years this march and i'm still on soft foods. I did upper and lower splints... Not a chance in heck they did anything but make it worse.

The only thing I think I should of done then was keep calm as stupid as it sounds. The more worked up you are, the tighter the muscles, the more they pull out your jaw. And keep sitting up straight as well.

You are very lucky in the fact that this is relatively recent when they caught it. You have the chance of being able to slavage your jaw before you damage it beyond repair like many of us.

If you need to talk about it, you can im me on this name or give me an holler on my email. I know your pain and I apologize that it happened. It's difficult when it occurs at the hands of someone else.

Remember stay nice and loose! Sit up straight with shoulders back and neck in!
