Q: What Is Causing My Bad Breath?

I brush properly, including my tongue. I have bad breath that I believe is coming from my tonsils. There are little gaps in them that produce these little yellow particles. When removed, they smell terrible, just like my breath does, but a lot stronger. This is where it is coming from. Anybody know what these are and what they are called? How do I stop them? I've tried to go in and take out whichever ones, but they keep coming out. Any ideas? Thanks!

They Are Tonsilloliths
They are tonsilloliths or "tonsil rocks". And I have read about it, it could be the reason for your breath, but may not be.... As I have read, there are many ways to help, like rinsing with peroxide (supposedly)-- my daughter gets them.
Do a search, if you are young enough and think your breath is because of these, you could talk to doctor about removing tonsils, but it is supposedly a hard operation for an adult. Good luck!

Yep, sounds like tonsil stones.

Bad breath and tonsils stones (tonsilloliths) are generally two related problems. Microbacterial organisms inside your mouth are the primary cause of bad breath. Tonsils stones are formed when sulfur from these organisms combine with debris in your mouth. The reason that these two conditions are so often linked is that the sulfur produced by the bacteria is the most likely cause of bad breath, and tonsils stones are just a symptom that these bacterial organisms are present in your mouth.

Bad breath and tonsils stones can be treated with oral care products that reduce the bacteria that cause bad breath. The tonsils stones will then disappear because the sulfur compounds are no longer present.

I had this problem too. Once you got the little yellow things off your tonsils the stench was unbearable gives you a right complex.

In my case I also has swollen tonsils so I got my tonsils removed. To be honest not the most pleasant experience but it certainly helped me and i'm no longer bothered with this.

I have just recently discovered that my girlfriend is bulimic. I know the two (my bad breath and her eating disorder) have nothing in common, but could this be the reason for my tonsil stones (kissing her)? I know that the stomach acids and such cause tooth decay as can damage her throat (as I had read on this forum), but could that also be the cause of my bad breath? I did not have the tonsil stones before we started going out. Please advise. I want to be as informed as possible. Thank you.

I have had these and I am not sure what they are called but I went to the doctor and found out that they are caused by allergies. She recommend me just take over the counter allergy medicine and they havn't come back since

Do these things cause bad breath or is it just the rocks themselves that smell? I have been getting them as far back as I can remember (I am 24 now), but they come in sperts, I can go months without having them and then I will go a straight month where i have one or two come out every day. It really grosses me out and I am now super selfconsious that I may have really bad breath?
