I don't know if anyone knows about insurance and prescriptions.

I've been wanting to use my insurance to get birth control pills because the coverage is really good getting better birth control (i'm on ortho from a health center in my city and I hate it! I only use it cuz it's free contraception) but the only thing is i'm still under my mother's until I am 25. I actually don't want her to find out that i'm taking birth control...It's a personal thing to me and I think that I should have the right not to say what i"m on or not on, you know?

So under hippa (don't know if anyone is familiar) are they allowed to disclose such information as to what a patient under your insurance is getting a prescription for?

Depends on how old you are currently.. If you are old enough to go to the doctor on your own (i forget if it's 16 or 18 that you don't have to get their consent).. Then your parents would never know. They do no report what prescriptions have been filled under your insurance.

Another Option...
This may not be all doctors, but the ob/gyn I see usually gives me "samples" from the office every couple months. She knows that my insurance won't cover birthcontrol pills, so she gives me these. It would be worth asking your gyno when you go....

Won't the clinic you go to give you a different kind? I know the clinic here will give you one of several different kinds and ortho is the hardest to get!
And if you are 22, the chances of your mom finding out through the insurance company are slim to none. If she gets any info on prescriptions at all, it would most likely only be a dollar amount that the insurance paid in a given year. Good luck.
