I recently moved to tampa florida to be with my fiance. I left a small town in ohio. Sold my house and left my family. Florida is sunny and warm all the time. But the culture differences and the social difference Im finding it hard to deal with. People here are not as friendly as my small home town. They are not curtious at all. I have never been to a place in the USA that I have the language barrier. I have nothing against others at all. This place is like moving to mars for me. I find myself stressed almost everyday about one thing or another........I want to find my home here... I want to adjust to the place my fiance was born and raised. I just dont know how to do it... Can anyone help?

Give yourself time. It's always a big switch to move out of your element, but I promise that adaptation will come, but only with time.

Think of animals. If a dog was raised and owned by one owner for, say 10 years, and then moved to a new owner, he'll seem sad for the first while, but then he'll adapt. Humans are the same way. I've moved about 5 times, and I know how difficult it is to adapt, but i've somehow found happiness in "new" sceneries and different ways of life.

I'll be praying for you.

Me too! I just moved to south Florida 2 montha ago because my husband got a job here, I HATE it... Its so different than the New England culture I'm used to. I tell my Husband this and he just dosn't get it. He thinks things are fin and dandy. He worked at a university and most of the other professors are not FL natives themselves, so he dosn't see it like I do... I just want home... I want crunchy leaves and pumpkin picking )= I want to raise my 2 children, ages 8 years, and 8 months...well, not here... I miss my family, long time circle of friends, and everything about New England. I feel so uterly alone here. And to make matters worse, I am a nurse and am having a hard time finding a job. I mean a nurse?? There is such a shortage everywhere! I just dont see many postings for my qualifacations. Maby I'm looking in the wrong places? Not that I need to work but I certaintly LONG to get out of this house and gruling job of being a stay at home mom...Call me horrible, and I love my kids to no end, but it's just not for me. I have always worked and need adult stimulation aside from emails and texts to friends back home, who are busy going on with their own lives... I'm just so sad...Hopefully everything works out for you Rebakah, and we'll both get used to this foreign world....

hey I am feeling exactly the same too! I am in the UK but have moved from one end to the other, and experiencing the same as you rebakah. The culture here is so different, I also find a 'language barrier' and no one understands what Im saying half the time. In fact my partner has to repeat what I say alot of the time as people look at me like im speaking a different language althogether! I too miss my family and friends. Im also finding it hard to get a job, it really is lonely. I have tried getting out by joining swimming clubs etc, this helps a bit but I think working will really help. Its good to hear that I am not the only one who has found moving difficult. Godd luck to both of you in your new homes...

I am with Nursey79. I moved to South Florida 10 months ago from NYC. I couldn't wait to leave winter behind and live in the sun. Guess what?! The move is not going as planned. I miss my old job and friends. I hate my new job. People always say NYers are rude..well those people need to meet people here in S. FL..talk about rude!
I wish I could click my heels and go home...I feel like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. There is no place like home (NYC). Sad...
