Q: Left & Right Lower Rib Pain
asked by: Blue_Streak_Creations on February 4th, 2005

Have been through a # of tests... Hida scan was normal... No stones with ultrasound only a small polyp. Just had a cat-scan & that showed only a simple cyst within my kidney. I do have a endoscopy & colonscopy next monday.... What's strange, the pain started under my right rib...With what the doc's thought was a galldbladder attack, but now the pain is underneath my left & right rib with a intermittent aching in between both ribs. Pain in ribs feels better when I lay down & stay still. Do have a history of heartburn...& dr's wonder about ulcers...But rib pain from this? Anyone else had this happen? If so what was it? I really scared about what's going on...

Thanks,
blue

Found out from my dr's that even though my gallbladder pain started & is mostly under my right rib (where the gb is)...It's referring pain to my left rib-- along with the chest pains & all the back pain.

Would be a good idea to see your dr if the pain in your left rib is not getting any better. Could be your bowels, spleen or liver... Only a dr's going to be able to give you a definite answer.

I have had a hida scan, ultrasound, endoscopy, colonscopy, ekgs and blood tests and still they can't find anything wrong my ribs back hurt and it feels like some one is stabbing me in my diaphram. I have two or three attacks a day it scares me I need someone to tell me I am not crazy. I am still searching but it has been along process. If you have any thing to help me that would be great. I do how ever have one think may help lots and lots of alka-seltzer..

Casey69,
have you had surgery to remove your gallbladder? If you have had surgery that removed your gallbladder...It could possibly be sphincter of oddi dysfunction. I've read a lot of people have pain come back after the gallbladder is out. It causes similar symptoms as gallbladder attacks. Do a search for it...There's a # of web sites that talk about it.

Your fortunate alka seltzer helps... I'm hoping to have my gallbladder removed within a week or two... Regular pain killers, antacids...Nothing helps the pain of a gallbladder attack...

I Still Have My Galbalder !!!!!!!!
I still have my galbalder. The test show that I have nothing wrong with my galblader the ultra sound didn't show anything nor did the hida scan. We are talking about explorty surgery. The doctor that did the endoscopy said that the surgen that did the surgery may have made a mistake be cause I still have all of my insestine. I really did't lose that much weight it has been a little over two years. No my stomach has not streathed it is only 5cm by 5cm. As for antiacides it helps but doen't go away each eposide last about 40 minitues. I have had h-plori and acid reflux its for sure not the same pain and they found no problmes during the enoscopy! Untill I seen your posting I was about to go crazy. Now I know and can show proof to people I am not the only one that has these pains.. Thank you for your response.................................. ........ :(

Boy i'm sorry to hear of all your trouble. All the tests came back normal for my gallbladder to, other then a polyp found within it. But by the process of elimination-- with all the tests they have ran on my they ruled out everything else... Hopefully the dr's will be able to do the same for you...Just keep on them & don't let them take your pain lightly...

Take care

Hi blue, I too started a few weeks ago with what I thought was gallbladder colic,as I have had it before about 11 years ago. I had an ultrasound scan which showed only inflammation and was advised to go on a low fat diet.

I am at the moment awaiting another scan but there is a long waiting list :? I have had a rib xray which was normal. The pain is in the left and right hand side under the ribs and sometimes I feel like there is something there. The pain is like a dull pinch or a cramp :( it also radiates through to my back and is more a discomfort, however, when I get a bad attack, it can be quite painful. No sickness or diarreah but stools quite hard lately

i am on medication & occasionally take gaviscon but its not helping. Good luck with the outcome of your problem and I hope you feel better soon.

P.S sometimes I feel like there is a hot fizzy feeling in my stomach :?
