I started having the nightmare of tmj a few years ago. Several things contributed to the condition: having to work at a computer for many hours, being an anxious person, and having a small problem in the temporomandibular joint.
I went to a special treatment with a dentist specializing in tmj with no success. I went to an orthopedist, to a psychiatrist, to an internist, to physical therapy.
After 2 years, the internist and the psychiatrist decided that the best medication (and the last resource) was klonopin (clonazapam, also called rivotril).
Oh, what a difference, I got my life back. I know it is a benzodiazepine and that it is addictive, but what takes your freedom away more than chronic pain? I rather be addicted to a medication.
