Does anybody know if antidepressants can interfere with birth control in a way that would cause spotting for six days straight?

I've called my pharmacist, but she said that she had to research it and would get back to me later on in the day...

I'm just wondering if anybody else had gone through anything similar. I'm thinking because of a combination of a low estrogen birth control and an antidepressant messing around with other chemicals in the body, maybe that could cause prolonged spotting?

I have no idea...I can't wait to go to the doctor tomorrow :p

Hmm
I am currently taking a low hormone birth control pill along w/ antidepressants. I haven't experienced any spotting. I've taken several different antidepressants...None of them caused such a thing. I'm curious to know what your doctor finds out. I wish you luck, and that things get better for you. Keep me informed on both your health/well being, and your results.

Peace.

Well, I went a few days ago and had it checked out with a doctor... The pregnancy test came back negative and he said that it was probably just due to the low hormone bcp i'm taking and that it was normal... He didn't want to do an internal exam and I thought that he probably should have.

Anyway... Day 11 today of this disgusting brown stuff and i've just about had enough. My period is supposed to come tomorrow so i'm hoping it helps to get this over with.

I'm going to see my family doctor on the 17th of feb to see what's up.
The pharmacist said that she'd never heard of antidepressants effecting the birth control pill, but since they're both metabolized in the liver, there's always a possibility that one or the other could throw hormone levels out of whack...

Who knows, I hope this stops soon, there's no point in being on birth control if i've got brown spotting for half the month!! :p
