My husband, who has always been thin, has
lost about 15 pounds in one month!! We
are terrified. He says he has no
appetite, which of course leads to weight
loss, but he always eats alot!! There
are no mental or emotional issues, in
fact, just a year ago he got an incredible
job that he loves. This company is so
hard to get into and he did. The job
pays well, has excellent benefits, and is
a cushy one at that, no stress, etc..He
tells me he loves it. Our relationship
is going great. There has been nothing
but good going on for us, thats what is
scaring him (and me) so much. Then the
other night, he had a massive nosebleed.
It stopped after about 6,7 minutes, but it
was alot of blood. I can't believe it,
but we can't get into a gp for a week, and
we figure test results will take another
week, so we're looking at 2 weeks of not
knowing, not sleeping, anxiety out of
control!! Have any of you out there ever
heard of this? I know it could be really
bad, he knows it too. We try not to talk
about it too much, just so we don't lose
our minds--anyone, anything?

I think you may be over-reacting.
Chances are this is nothing to really
worry about. Sounds like a hormonl
change... His loss of appetite and higher
demands of his new job (even if he isn't
stressed about it) can lead to rapid
weight loss. The nose bleed could be
from a high blood pressure, which is
again, linked to rapid weight loss.
I'm thinking the doctor will give him some
supplements to increase his appetite and
probably suggest a weight gain powder to
pack the calories in. (one weight gain
shake is equal to around 2 full meals in
term sof nutrients and calories.)
it can be something more serious, but
again... I wouldn't be too worried about
it at this point.

Actually it sounds like he needs to have
his thyroid tested.. Lots of weight loss
is one of the first symptoms of problems
with the thyroid. It's not life
threatening and usually only requires
medication unless there is something
deeper going on, it's just that the
thyroid is either over producing or under
producing the right hormones to keep his
metabolism in check.
As for the nose bleed.. It may be
separate and could just be exasperated
from the weight loss..

I would agree with the above reply ... My
mom used to have an underactive thyroid
which made next to impossible for her to
gain weight and she was always underweight
and never really gained .... You might
want that checked and it is simply cured
by being put on a medication (sometimes if
it is bad they have to remove some of your
thyroid) my mom had both done she had
surgery and was put on synthoroid.
Nosebleeds are fairly common this time of
year in fact lol I just made a post about
my nose bleeds they gush out like there is
no tomorrow and last about an hour .... I
just got it cauterized but there are
things concerning me.
