Q: Diets from way back

Seeing is believing. If you think for a minute back in time, say to the 50's and 60's obesity was rare. People ate healthier, from the 7 food groups, they didn't eat out at restaurants and fast food places daily. They ate at home with a family cooked meal. What does that tell you about diets? What does that tell you about the additives in the foods served to you other than the home made from scratch foods our mothers fed the family as we were growing up? Healthy, you betcha, additives you betcha not, additives make you fat you betcha.
Diets are gimmicks to make somebody else reap the rewards financially while they think of the people (idiots like us) who bought into their 'gimmicks' and laugh all the way to the bank with our money.
No pill can make you loose weight, block fats etc not even the uncontrolled herbals.

That is so true, but you have to realize, back then, it didn't take two income just to live in the society now. People don' t have time to come home from an 9-5 job and cook an full course meal. I don't.
That's why there is so much obesity in the U.S.

I beg to differ with ycmoore, if you precook some extra meals when your at home, cleaning or doing laundry through the week or week end and reheat for dinner, or use a slow cooker and prep everything the night before you can have home cooked meals daily. It doesn't take a lot of extra time when you get into a routine.
Truthfully I think it takes more time to have to run out to the "diner" than to just cook at home and a lot more pricey.
But you are right at the cost of living so high that we all need 2 incomes. Or is it because society has made our lives more of a want in life rather than a need in life the reason we all need 2 incomes??? (luxuary rather than nessecity!) We are all guilty of that.
I have a rule that my family lives by, first one home starts dinner even if it is just peeling potatoes, preping the meat or what ever. Everybody needs to co-operate or we have a late dinner and every one is starving and grumpy with only there selves to blame. Mind you it took a lot to get to this routine but it works and we are all helpfull with each other, but most of all we are not eating food saturated with fillers, bi-products and trans fats.
Co-operation is a wonderfull invention.

Georgie,

i like your advise!! Now if I could just stick to it. I am addicted to eating out, I think. Although most meals are fixed at home, when it's payday, the first thing I think about is eating out, like it's a luxury. I'm wondering how can get myself out of this terrible habit.

Growing up (i'm almost 32) my mom canned food from the garden, we ate alot from our garden. And everynight on my plate was the normal, meat, and veggies. We hardly ever had a soda, or a candy bar, that was a treat. She would never buy me the presweetened cereal's and I was so thin throughout childhood and into my teenage years, I never started to gain weight until I was in my late twenties, I guess when all the fast food eating--took over!!!!!

So, you are very right.

Thank you!

I Agree 100 % !
Laughing you are so right about our fast-food, additive-added, addictive lifestyle! I am getting back on the right track by eating the way my mom, a 1960's stay-at-home housewife, taught me: 3 meals a day (including a hearty breakfast) of real food --- fruits, vegetables, whole grains, some meat more as a side dish, dessert only on special occasions. She used to say "eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a peasant, dinner like a pauper" in other words eat most of your calories during the day when you are most active. Oh, and stay active! (she is now 76 years old and still plays tennis and walks daily).

Diets From Way Back
Way back the food we grew and bought ar the store was much healthier than it is now..The way that food is massed produced...The vegetables are picked green and shipped to warehouses that gas them to ripen them...Our meat is full of growth hormones....We cannot get what we need anymore from our food sources Sad
