I'm sure this has been asked a million times... But here goes anyway. :?

I am on birth control (alesse 28) and i've been on it for about four months now. I have not missed any pills this month. I just finished my period about 15 days ago, fiance and I had sex about 8 days ago, and yesterday I started with this brown mucous-like discharge. It is mostly there when I wipe, but sometimes when i'm walking or when I go for a jog as well. I've had brown spotting before when I first started the pill, but it was only a small amount, and this time it seems to be a little bit more.

Any ideas? :?

Extremely eHealthy
Sounds like you are spotting. It happens when you are on the pill.It can mean you need to switch brands.Your best bet is to call your doc and let her/him know what is going on.It is not something to worry about, but do let your doc know what is going on.Good luck to you.

Thanks :)

today I started having a bit of red blood mixed in with the brown stuff, yuck. But I *think* i've got this figured out. Alesse is the lowest estrogen birth control pill that there is out there, or so i'm told. Apparently low estrogen levels can thin the lining of the uterus, making it more likely to bleed during activity. Lately, i've been a lot more active, jogging a few miles a day. The symptoms started about the same time as the activity increased, so I can pretty much narrow it down to that.

Unfortunately, I think I will have to change birth control pills, yet again. This is the fourth birth control method i've tried in the past year that hasn't worked... I can't wait until I get married next summer and start trying to have a baby... No more pill! :)

Day six today with this disgusting brown stuff :( i'm supposed to start my period on sunday...Which means that I only got away with a week and half out of this month without having to wear a pad :(

going to the doc's tomorrow to get it checked out, I hope he can come up with some miraculous solution to make it stop.

*sigh* being a girl sucks sometimes. :p

You Are Not Alone
To steph1983,

i was just reading what you were going through and I take the same pill as you and I am going through the same thing although this just started for me but I agree. And let me tell you that I have been on 5 different kinds of birth control pills and I can't wait to get married and get off the pill and have kids. So it's glad to know that I am not the only one that has these problems.

Similar Problem
I've been taking a birth control pill for a while now, more than a year. Last month a started having a brown discharge about 2 weeks before my period was due. I had never had a brown discharge before. It happens at least once a week. Is this something serious?

Brown Discharge...
I've been having the same problem... I've been on the same pill (the off brand of orthocyclen - Sprintex) for 7-8 years now, nonstop. Maybe it just stopped working? Maybe I need to switch or just get off it?

Also, this may be TMI - but is anyone else experiencing a weird smell with it? I sometimes hate being a girl!

Pregnant on the Pill?
I've been on LoEstrin for about 2 years now. I had PROTECTED sex with my boyfriend for the first time about 10 days ago (pill number 6 in the pack), however we were interrupted and he never ejaculated. I am now experiencing symptoms such as brown discharge, breast tenderness, and abdominal cramps -I'm still in the middle of my pill pack. Is there any possibility I could be pregnant??? Or are these just side effects to the birth control pill?

Same Here
I have been having this problem as well. I been on lo/ovral for about 6 months. On my second week of pills this month I started getting a light brown discharge. It's been on and off. Now it is the week of my sugar pills so I'm praying to God that I will get my period like normal in a couple days. I don't want to have to switch brands either. Does anyone here have a real explanation of why this is happening to me?

I switched from ortho tricyclen lo to allesse, and about a week and a half into the pills I noticing a brown discharge. It started off light, but it has gotten darker the closer I get to my period. The doctor told me that this is a common side affect of switching pills, and it shouldn't take more than 3 months for the breakthrough bleeding to stop. She also said that if I switched back to tricyclen lo that I would probably still experience the breakthrough bleeding. My advice, just stick to it for 3 months and let your body adjust to the different level of hormones. And trust me, I know it's frustrating to not be able to have sex because of this problem, I mean, after all, we are on the pill to make sex more enjoyable in the first place, so I know it is tempting to want to switch right away, But I don't think it is a good idea to be constantly switching pills. Your body needs time to adjust.
