Q: Confused

I'm not sure exactly what is wrong with me. Lately I have been experiencing episodes where: I get really nervous suddenly, my heart begins to race and beat harder than I think it should, my chest begins to feel really hot, and my whole body starts to tingle. I get scared; afraid that i'm going to have a heart attack or something. It is interfering with my performance in school and social activities.

What could this be ? Am I suffering from anxiety? If so, what do I do about it? Is this something else?

I also need to add 2 other things that may be factors : 1. I have anorexia/bulimia and am severely underweight. 2. I am taking antidepressants.

Any help or comments are appreciated.

Anxiety can definitely cause the symptoms you mention..

I'd say you want to go back to your doctor and explain the symptoms you're having - if it is anxiety which it very well could be, maybe there's a better medication for you.... If it isn't anxiety then it may a relation to the fact that you sa you're severely underweight.

Just wondering, has the antidepressent been helping with the anexoria?

Ironically
You know what's ironic? This medication (effexor) actually lists anorexia as a side effect. I'm only taking this particular antidepressant because I haven't responded to anything else. I think she's (my nurse) is hoping that it will make me 'happier' thus make me feel good about myself and want to eat. I, however don't ever see this happening and I told her that. I'll know more about it's effects in a couple weeks. I need to give it an appropriate amount of time before I make any conclusions.

Thanks for the advise, too. I'll tell my doctor about what's been going on. I think it definitely needs to be mentioned.
