Epidural...
Posted: 01-26-05 18:01pm

I know I have a ways to go with my pregnancy but im actually really afraid of the epidural. Im sure im not the only one thats afraid but would any of you recommend it over natural child birth without the epi? Ive heard delievery goes a lot faster without it but that its extremely painful which is by all means understandable. Im just afraid of gettting the epidural and dont really know what to do.

Epidural???

If you are that scared of an epidural, maybe I think you should have one.
It is not painful, it takes the pain away. Seriously you do what you feel is right on the day. I have three children, a set of twins and I had an epidural, I wouldnt have done it any way.

It let me enjoy the experience.

Good luck

It hurts when they are doing it.. Putting it in whatever you call it, but it doesnt hurt worse then labor. If you dont like pain I say you better get it. I had it done with all of my children except the first one and I have 5 children and im preggo now with number 6 and I thank god they made epidural. Because you can consintrate more on your baby and not the pain every few min/sec.. Good luck to you hun. You have plenty time to think about it

I have two babies, never had one and I don't regret it. No drugs is better for both of you if you can handle the pain. If not, get one. If you are in too much pain that wouldn't be good for either of you either. I would say the best part is after you have the baby. You can get up and go to the bathroom or whatever, get on with your biz. With an epi I think you have to wait until it's out of your system and maybe some other stuff too, not sure.

I am pregnant with my first child and i'm taking prenatal yoga. Our instructor gave us some advice telling us to try and get through it without any drugs, and if the pain is not longer bearable, then go for the epidural. It seems like a good idea to just go with the flow to do what ever your body tells you to do.

Im not going to have any pain meds. Mostly because I am under age and my mom can tell them not to give it to me. Other wise I would be having an epidural.

Mamma2005- can they do that? Not give you pain meds because your under age? I would think your mom would want you to feel most comfortable, being she should know how hard it is... But I dont know, I havent had my baby yet.

Im very very afraid of the epidural, mainly because ive seen it done on tv, and this girl started bleeding horribly. I know you bleed when you have a baby, but thats normal, and its not coming out your back. And ive seen ones on tv where the cath falls out... I think im afraid now, cause who wants to think of getting a needle in your back, but on the day of, ill be like please give it to me, cause who wants to feel a cantelope coming out of a apple...I dont even think 10cm is as big as an apple... :):):)

I know what your talking about rach. I hate when I ask a question, and they answer with "well you wont care anyways youll be in so much pain" I know im gunna be in pain, but that wasnt my question... Ya, I wont care then, but im afraid, cause im not feeling that pain as of right now. But once im there and I know whats gunna happen, I will be exited to get it over with, cause I wanna meet her! I wish I was 26w :( ...

You should do what you think is best for you but sometimes the babies can come pretty quick so there is a chance that you might not have time to get an epidural. My brother's wife didn't have one when she went into labor that is because my newph wanted to get out pretty quick. But good luck.

If it comforts you at all my hospital offers other ways of pain medication for the child birth and you can look into that... Or you can ask to have an iv for like muscle relaxers before you request an epi?
