I'm a black female in her late 30's. I exercise 4 to 5 times a week (high intensity aerobics; some weights and interval training); I eat reasonably well (low-fat foods, no added salt, etc.); and I drink alcohol infrequently and in moderation. So, why do I have high blood pressure, and what can I do about it other than take medications?? :?

Thank you for any insights you may have to offer.

Hi- did you figure anything out? I'm 33, white, healthy, drink occasionally, regularly exercise, drink plenty of water, eat fairly healthy--- and have high blood pressure.

I was 24 when I was diagnosed. My Dr. Told me it was because of the birth control pill I was on and the hormones that it contained.

I wish I knew! I'm a white female who was diagnosed in my late 20s. I've never been close to overweight, a vegetarian, I exercise, I quit smoking 8 years ago. I used to drink, but I quit even that over a year ago now. I had it under good control for a while, but my latest readings, on medication, are 170/100. :(

have you been screened fully for secondary causes (kidney problems, tumors, etc.)?

I see your post was in jan, i'd love an update if you're still around!

The birth control pill...???!!!
I’m no expert on this matter, but would be extremely inclined to believe that the birth control pill can be a strong contributing factor…every time that we interfere with a normal bodily/natural function we create havoc! This is my true, honest opinion!
