Q: Estrogen In Bc Pills While Breastfeeding

I have a question about the estrogen in the bc pills. A friend's doctor has warned her that breastfeeding while on the pill can cause her son to develop 'breasts'.... I am really curious as to if this is true or not, seeing as how most bc pills nowadays are lo dose to begin with...

The only bcp that is permitted for breastfeeding women is the "mini-pill" which is progesterone only. I don't know if you described the reason.

I would not use the pill and breastfeed. The risk of the hormones, however low the dose is not worth it.Babies are very small and what would be considered a low dose for an adult woman could be a very high dose for a baby.Plus,if her child is a male, introducing female hormones in excess of what is already in his little body just does not sound like a good idea.Remember, what ever is taken in by the mother gets passed on through the breast milk-that means her little boy is getting her pills!Yes,that can cause him to develop breasts and also mess with his male development. So,she should either stop breastfeeding or go off the pill until she stops breastfeeding and choose a nonhormonal birth control method.
