Hi interested*party,

don't ya just love all those tests!?

Oh I know the numb feeling your talking about. It's a very odd feeling... I'm seeing my surgeon this morning to schedule surgery. I'm in pain most all the time, i've had enough. I've not had a normal life in 3 months. Have hardly been able to leave the house...

Hope you feel better soon....

Yes, it's such a weird feeling :(..

It's had me feeling "oh my god - it must be - like - a tumour or something" ... But now that I know that others have it - i'll sit tight & stop stressing.

We have a family event coming up from may 16th to june 1st, a get together, so i've made up my mind that after that i'm booking into a surgeon & getting this sorted out.

One thing - i've stayed with this vegetarian diet now since saturday, and it seems to be easing it quite a bit - though I still get the pain - at odd times, and for no apparent reason - i'm just not feeling so helpless or so stressed out - just feel more positive I guess.

Anyways, it's been really great to know that i'm not goddamned crazy- truly - I thought that I must have been turning hypochondriac and that my doctors eyes were glazing over with the "oh my god - not her again " look .. So i'd like to truly thank you guys.

I'll be dropping in every day to keep track so will catch you tomorrow night..

I will be very interested to hear what your surgeon says about that numb spot blue..

:)

We finally got the results of my daughters hida scan and it was way below normal.

We go to a pediatric surgeon on thursday...The funny thing is, the gi still says the pain is not due to the gallbladder....What else could it be?

He also said to not be surprised if a surgeon won't do the surgery. I just can't stand to see my daughter in pain for 3 - 4 hours straight, not able to move and just writhing in pain. Its horrible. Something needs to be done.

We'll just find someone else if this one says no.

To the mother of 13 year old--

i sure hope they can found out what's wrong with your daughter. Keep looking for a dr who will work with you. The fact the hida scan was low, says something is wrong with her gb.... Have they recommended a upper endoscope or a colonscopy to check her stomach etc...To make sure it's not something to do with that or her intestines? I had those tests done before they pointed for sure as my gallbladder being the culprit..

Jaime,

did your surgeon mention sphincter of oddi syndrome/dysfunction to you? My surgeon said if I am still having the same problem after surgery, it's probably that... He said 10% of his patients still have the same pains after surgery & have to have the sphincter fixed... It feels like the same pains as the gallbladder... They can do this surgery like they do an upper endoscope...

Hi interested*party ,

my surgeon said the weird numb spot is the gb... It's pretty common feeling for people with bad gb's. That's about all he said. We had so many questions for him & he answered them all... Actually felt more confident walking out of his office then before... He really put me at ease about the surgery...

Uggg what a pain in the rear bad gb's are...

Has anyone had this weird like gnawing or gripping pain in the center of the stomach between the ribs? It's irritating to wear pants...Even elastic wind pants...Uggg... My right side is not bothering me as much right now, but this pain is nasty feeling. Sometimes it even feels like someone is squeezing my liver stomach, etc....

Feel Like I'm Reading About Myself
Posted: 03-30-05 17:44pm

Yea so saturday I get this stabbing pain b/w my ribs and figure it was acid, so I try an acid reducer and it does nothing... Then the pain moves to my back, mostly on the right side by my shoulder... I have a bad back so I figured it was back pain, radiating to the front... Then the pain starts in my right side like under the ribs sorta... You know, its a weird spot...So sunday rolls around and the pain is worse, I try muscle relaxer and pain killers, nothing works... Sunday night I got sick, but when I woke up monday I felt ok... Went about my business on monday but by monday night I started feeling the pain again... Tuesday same thing, woke up alright, then by tue. Afternoon I was in pain so I went to my general doc.. .He suggested gallbladder and ordered blood test and ultrasound and said if it gets worse go to er... So I go to er b/c by tue night I thought I was dying and er doc feels around and is convinced its gallbladder, man when he pressed on that spot I almost lost it, even talked about the surgery... So he ordered tests- blood, urine, ultrasound, chest xray, cat scan.... All come back normal.. No stones... So he gives me morphine and sends me on my way... So here I am on wednesday, still in pain and not knowing wat to do...
Is it possible to have a stone, pass it, and then still be sore and have tests show nothing?
I have hidascan appt next friday and appt w/ gastro in 2 weeks...
This sucks though b/c it hurts bad

Desperate to Find Cause of Symptoms
Posted: 04-04-05 20:41pm

Dear heather (and fellow sufferers),
I am a fifty-four year old granma with a daughter who is expecting her fourth child (in four years) in the beginning of may. This would be wonderful news except for the fact that she lives in california and I live in pennsylvania. I have always traveled there for at least a few weeks when she has her baby, but this time my medical condition has put quite a kink in the plan. I am hoping that you can help me.
I have the identical symptoms that you have expressed in your postings. I continued to read them and had hoped to find out how things turn out for you, so I could possibly discover some clue as to what is wrong with me.
I have the same abdominal pain that you describe and had slightly elevated liver enzymes and then with the second blood test, the liver enzymes were lower but were high normal. I have the same horrible cramplike pain over my ribs and when the worst of it subsides my ribs feel sore. It has gotten to the point that they are sore most of the time.
I can't tell you how much your postings meant to me because I truly thought I was crazy...And at least I now know there are others going through the same experience.
I have had blood tests, endoscopy, ultrasound and ct scan with contrast...I have an mri scheduled for wednesday......Everything seems to progress sooooo slowly with the medical process.
I am hoping that you will share more of your experience......And hope and pray that "haredresserd's" symptoms have disappeared along with her gallbladder. Thanks to all for allowing me to feel that I am not alone.

Guys !..

Havent been able to get back in here for days !.. And have had withdrawals...

Wow - that numb spot is gallbladder huh?.. Good, that gives me something to go on..

Guys - have been trying out all sorts of things - both alternative and natural - to try to ease the pain..

I have discovered this..

For the last two weeks, I have eaten vegetables, both raw and cooked - staying away from crucerferous (i.E. Broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage) veges.. And have eaten unrestricted fruits - mainly seedless grapes because they are in season and are very sweet - in unlimited quantities...

I have also had the odd tortilla wrap - to wrap a vegetable / salad roll in at lunch time..

The up shot of it all - is that I have been pain free since wednesday...
So , almost a week now...

I have also forced myself to drink at least 2 litres of water a day - but, as much as I can - and amazingly, after I cut out the meat products & the processed foods - I found that I was amazingly thirsty for the first time in my life - normally I barely drink liquids at all.

Just wanted to share - hope this can help someone else..

It feels so great not to wake up in bad pain in the mornings!!!..

Oh boy!!! I am starting to get really nervous about my gallbladder surgery tomorrow. I've never had any kind of surgery or general anesthesia...So am starting to feel my knees knock together. Think i'm more nervous over the anesthesia then the actual surgery.

If anyone can share there surgery experiences that might help calm my nervousness...I'd really appreciate it...

Hello again,

i was the same way...Anything I ate would give me the pains...Even a glass of water. All is good now...Still having some nausea here and there but I think it's because of my gastritis. I also noticed today I got a gigantic blue, yellow and black bruise around my belly button incision...How pretty! I am slowly getting back to normal...Woohooo!

Heather, good luck on your surgery tomorrow and come back and post when you feel up to it....And don't worry...You'll be fine--just take deep breaths that will calm you down

Dear heather:
it is probably too late but I want to wish you the best with your surgery tomorrow. And please don't worry, you will be fine with the anesthesia. I have had several surgeries over my 54 years..........And of course, the first time I was frightened terribly, but it really is just like going to sleep and then waking up. I promise you, you will be asleep before you know it and then just wake up.
I just am hoping and praying that your pain will be gone forever and you can continue with your life as usual. I'll be thinking of you all day tomorrow. Sincerely,
desperate

I have had the hida scan done. Pretty simple...You don't eat anything after midnight, go in they inject you with a radioactive "tracer" that highlights your gallbladder and a machine(kind of like a cat scan but open at top and bottom and not as claustrophobic) takes pics every 10 mins of your gallbladder for about an hour. Then if you get to the second part(some people don't because their bile duct is blocked) they inject you with cck--a drug to make your gallbladder contract and squeeze out it's contents. This is how they measure how well your gallbladder is functioning. The second part can make people feel nauseaus and can sometimes bring on an "attack" in people with stones or inflamed wall. The second part takes about 30 mins to an hour.

Good luck,
donna

Good luck on you surgery tomorrow, I am sure you will do just fine! I have had several surgeries and one thing that I always ask the anaesthesiologist for is the relaxer before the knock out juice, it sure helps with the anxiousness and if they get you to cough afterwards be sure to put a pillow over your stomach and hold tight cause it does help w/pain. Do not be shy about asking for more pain medicine after surgery, they might even give you a button to push that is hooked up to a line that puts the medication in automatically. You will have pain afterwards and you will be moving slow, if you will be cut open as I know with some they remove by laser, some foods may not agree w/you afterwards. Keep us posted on how you are doing when you come home.
Sincerely,
sandy

The surgeon agreed to do my daughters surgery. Only he will be out of the office until april 22. He told us to call and have an associate do it if she got worse. Well, she got worse, she's been in pain all the time. So, I called them and her surgery is april 15. She will be glad to know its moved up. She is nervous, but glad she will be pain free soon.

Hida scan was easy, they had her pick out a movie and lay there and watch the movie while they did it. She just didn't move. A couple of times she laughed out loud so they had to tell her to stop moving. It was rather quick too. Only pain was from the cck which mimicks as though you've just eaten bacon eggs etc...Anything with grease. She did have an attack, but she was ok.
Good luck to all....

Hello everyone,

first off thank you everyone for your kind & encouraging words... It was greatly appreciated...

Well I made it through the surgery & the day after... I went into surgery around 1pm, wednesday and the surgery took approximately an hour. The surgeon said that the gb didn't look healthy, and that there looked like there was a little
inflammation. Also, he said that there were some adhesions connected
to the gb which indicated that there had been some inflammation
previous to now as well. He's also going to have the bile from
the gb checked for salmonella, which I got on vacation 3 years ago....As that may have been colonized in there. :( there's also a polyp that the ultrasound showed which they're
going to check to make sure it's not cancerous. We'll let you know
what they find on those tests.

After surgery it took me another 45 minutes before I woke up. I was in pretty good spirits and didn't have much nausea. After about an hour and a half more on my back I was permitted to sit up and eat some crackers. They kept me a couple hours more to
make sure I wasn't going to be nauseated, and make sure the
anesthesia had worn off. Then we came home!
They gave me vicodin which made me really sick & I threw up a couple times yesterday-- so I could not take that. I am handling darvocet much better... The day after (yesterday) was the worst....But today I feel much better...
