Hello, I am a nurse. I am also having
similar symptoms to some of you who have
posted. I have right upper quadrant pain
under the rib area radiating to the right
side, burning under the rib area, severe
back pain in the upper back area under the
scapula, belching, and gas. I have had all
the tests done as well, including the HIDA
scan which was equivocal at 50%. I am
having my gallbladder out in a week and a
half. If your tests turn out negative it
does not mean you are not having
gallbladder problems. You can have
gallbladder disease without gallstones and
it may not even show up on a HIDA scan.
It's called acalculous gallbladder
disease. You need to see a surgeon if your
problems persist. If your G.I. doctor is
uncooperative, get another opinion.
Studies have shown that those pt.s who
have symptoms, but do not have positive
test results from the tests, usually do
benefit from having the gallbladder
removed. Sometimes microlithiasis (which
won't show up on any scan) and sludge are
the problem. IBS symtpoms may be similar
to gallbladder disease, but there are
usually symptoms which are not, making it
relatively easy to differentiate between
the two. If you have your gallbladder out
and you are having pain, you may have a
Sphincter of ODDI problem. The ducts that
drain bile may still have a stone in it or
it may be strictured. this is treatable.
So be persistant people.

Thank you Kyla2 for posting. Please let
us know how your surgery goes and keep us
updated. I am still struggling with my
problems. They seem to get better for a
while and then cause me problems again,
though not as bad as they were in January.
Best wishes for a quick recovery. Take
care.

That sounds similar to my pain. I've gone
through a lot of weird symptoms, some of
them have changed over the weeks. In the
begining, it hurt my stomach every time I
ate and my lower abdominal hurt too (maybe
it was gas), then I became very bloated
and had a lot of burping. I always had
this pain under my rib on my right side,
but I didn't think much of it. The other
symptoms had more of my attention. I also
was moody and uncomfortable. I felt like
something was swollen under my rib. Then
the pain spread to my back. When I saw
the doctor for about the 6th time (!), he
pressed on me under my rib and I said, OW!
And he said, "yep that's your gall
bladder" I've been looking it up on the
internet and trying very hard to find a
way to heal it myself. It has gotten some
what better. It is frustrating trying to
find things that help though. Everything
is trial and error. I'm going to try milk
thistle. It's suppose to cleanse the
liver and gall bladder, help with
inflammation and strengthen the liver.
