Heart beat in ear for 5 years
I have had this for the past 5 years. Started in pregnancy with my first child. I recently noticed an improvement, as if the sound was getting 'lighter'. Since then I have gone on a dairy free diet and been inhaling daily. I am convinced it is to do with blocked Eustacian tubes and sinuses. When my ear pops and feels normal the pulsating sound goes, when fills up again the noise is back and ear feels full. If I press on side of neck the noise disappears too. Going to try Oestopathy next week, as suffer with neck tension. Doctors not interested as MRI was clear and hearing apparently excellent! Keep you posted!

hear heart beat in Left ear all the time
I have had the heart beat thing in my LEFT ear for about three years now. It started after I had a really bad sinus infection. When I firmly push in on the area below my ear, the sounds stops but as soon as I release the pressure the sounds starts again. So I think the blood vessel is resting on my ear drum and that is why I hear my heart beating. It really drives me crazy but like everyone else I went to the doctor and had all sorts of tests, everything came back normal. It is an awful thing to have to live with. I wish I had found some answers here today (2-25-2010) but it appears no one can help us.

Heartbeat in ear with whooshing
I have the same as a lot of you here. Heartbeat whooshing sound in my right ear. It seems to notice it when laying down, but tonight i am noticing it just sitting at my computer, which is what led me here. It always happens at night, i cannot recall it ever happening any other time. Also, like many here if i press on my neck the sound goes away but when you release it starts right back up. I have had it for over a year. It drives me crazy at night, and then i start to worry what it could be, which drives me even more crazy. My blood pressure is always good, but i am definitely going to do some looking into this more. I will keep posting if I find anything out!

Heartbeat in Left Ear
I have had this problem for about two years or so now. I hear my heart beat and blood cousing through my left ear at night. It seems to help to lay on my left side. I find that stress and exertion make it worse. Sometimes I feel a goose egg sized area that feels under pressure in the middle of the left side of my head- sometimes also on the left temple area. I have had an MRI and ultra sound of my carotids. A very small less than 4 cm fleshy spot found on my L neck area but nothing MD thought needed follow up. It is worrisome at times but seems that there is nothing to be done. I have not gone to ENT or Neurologist as that whole process is draining and I am sure will involve further testing. I have found that an anti inflammatory such as Aleeve seems to diminish this problem. Also, when I was on a course of penicilin for an dental process it seemed to diminish. Does anyone know of any studies- research associated with this problem. It is a relief to find out that there are others out there dealing with this same issue.

I read all these and have the same whooshing heart beat sound in my right ear. If I push on my neck, the noise stops which made me realize that it''s a muscle tension issue. I am a massage therapist so I look at things this way. When I have been sitting with bad posture, sitting too much, or lifting heavy things, it gets worse. If I massage my neck and shoulder, it gets better. I think the muscles in the neck get too tight and put pressure on the artery so you hear the sound.

Everyone I have heard of who has this that has gotten tests and such have come back normal.

I have the post above you. It really is neck tension. Massage, stress reduction and posture are the answer. I have healed mine except when I lay around watching a lot of TV or when I lift a bunch of heavy stuff, or drive for several hours straight. All those things up my neck tension and I get the heartbeat swoosh.

I have this same problem, in my right ear only, with a distinct whooshing heartbeat. It''s actually so loud at times that my husband can put his ear next to mine and hear it as well. No joke. This happened once before and my primary doctor didn''t know what was causing it, but gave me Cortisporin Otis drops (which is for an ear infection). I used them for a week and the heartbeat went away. That was a year ago, and it is back again. This time I am going to an ENT and I will see if he says it is just an infection again. I will report back once I''ve seen him later today.

I have had headaches for years and started having a high pitched pounding in my ears a few years back. The past 3 weeks my headaches have become worse and the pounding more severe. My doctor checked my ears and said there was no problem. It affects my sleeping and I am like many of you on this site - I just don't know what the heck it can be.

Pounding in Left Ear, Ringin in Both
Hello,

I just began experiencing the pounding in the left ear, when sitting in front of the computer--like right now--in my home. Now it is gone, and both my ears are ringing. I decided to look it up and found this thread. Been stressed lately and drinking lots of coffee and yes, even have an abscess sore infection in the right gums.

Looks like I need to see the doctor--again.

Thanks for all those that have posted throughout the years. (since 2005!) I hope you have found relief from this condition.

i have started having the same problem recently. especially during the night and only in my left ear. sounds do not cause much harm and i was kind of cool about it. but one day suddenly i got severe earache and that was the real problem. it was very painful, so much that i started surfing the net right in the night and came across a lot many articles and also found that many of us have similar problems. hadnt bothered to find before. my reply is not useful to you. but your question certainly was and now i know i might have pulsatile tinnitus. thank you. Smile

I dont see how doctors could tell you something that isnt true, just so they can hurry up. I have ear pains and the doctor gave me a steriod shot and some antibiotics and said i was fine, but it never got better, it got worse. Why do they do that?

Whoosing in left ear
Good to hear (lol) I''m not alone! I''ve had whooshing in my left ear for the last 5 months; I think I''ll try to look at thev way I have been sitting either with bad posture or sitting too much. Maybe laser light threapy will work.
