I'm new here and have been searching
through alot of pages and have not found a
topic on this. I saw some people mention
they get bv constantly and dont know what
to do about it.
Well I have the same problem and for the
past 4 mths straight I have reoccuring
episodes of this and it is soooo
annoying!!!! First I hear it is *not*
sexually transmitted then I hear it *is
possibly*. I only use non-scented soaps,
where cotton underwear (just recently read
a post where I should try just white
cotton underwear), I dont take bubble
baths, and dont douche or use anything
down there I am not suppose to and still
continue to get this infection! I have
had a steady sex partner going on 4 years
and he is fine. I am tried of taking the
medicine every month for this cause then
we cant have sex for a week and a half.
Has anyone heard that this can cause
infertility over a period of time?
Any help, suggestions (natural possibly)
that can help control this bv? Anyone had
this same problem and found a way to keep
it away?
All help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!
:) I am desperate and will do just about
anything to stop this!!!!!

I had bacterial vaginosis in january. My
gyno did not prescribe me with an
antibiotic, although I thought that was a
little strange because I had read up on
the subject and everything I read said
that you cured bv with antibiotics.
However, he prescribed me relegard, which
is a therapeutic vaginal gel that you
insert. It costs about $25 and you use
it for 6 days before you go to bed. It is
not very messy, and it really seemed to
help. I haven't had it again since.
Just thought that this might help some of
you if you haven't heard of it.

Bacterial vaginosis cannot be gotten from
a man unless he somehow got it from a
woman and that is so highly unlikely.
They say that if you keep getting them and
it will not go away and you are with the
same sexual partner that he should be
treated to see if that helps. But, it is
very, very hard for a man to get it.
You can get it from having sex, but not
because the guy has it. He may have a
bit of dirt, bacteria, etc. On his penis
or fingers that gets inserted into you and
causes bv. Some women even have
reactions to sperm which cause bv, yeast
infections and various other discomforts.
Maybe ask your doc if your man should be
treated? Most docs will say it isn't
necessary but if yours wont go away then
what would it hurt?
It sounds like you are doing everything
right. Make sure you drink lots of water
on top of everything else. Sorry, I
don't know about any natural cures, but
the above post mentioned something.
Also, bv can cause pelvic inflammitory
disease. I do not, however, know if that
can cause infertility or not. But, I can
look if you want me to.

Instead of starting a new topic on this I
decided to search and i'm glad I did. I
have had bv since august and enough
flagyll to last e a lifetime. I've
changed my diet wear cotton panties, no
tight clothes no perfumed soaps. Eaten
yogurt. The only thing that has helped me
that my doctor recommended was to sleep
with no bottoms on. But my god ladies
it's been constanly non-stop since august.
I mean that's 4 months of smelling badly
with a terrible discharge and feeling
unclean. My bf of one year has been a
great sport and understanding of what's
going on but man. Does anyone have any
experience with this and what has worked
for you?

Bv is a mix of bacteria. Its not really an
std. When you sleep with someone and the
mans bacteria does not agree with your
good bacteria,the bad bacteria overpowers
the good in return you get bv.If you do
indeed have it and your sleeping with the
same person, they should be treated as well
or you will just keep getting it back.I've
had this problem several times and it was
always with the same guy and he always
gave it back to me because he went
untreated. It wont stop you from having
children unless you let it go untreated
for a long period of time.
You know as many times as i've gone to the
doctor (and trust me,it's a lot.) they
have always told me (even when I
suggested) I can't get it from my partner
because it isn't an std. They once even
treated me for trichomonasand he was told
that he didn't have it or anything
else.Turns out it was bv then. Although
he was treated for that. You guys I am
at my wit's end with this and I don't know
what else to try.I went to the doctor on
monday and I was told "it's just as common
as a yeast infection. Some women get
them more often than others and even
constantly maybe you're one of those
women, and, it's unfortunate but it just
may be one of things you have to deal
with." what she basically told me that I
may have to deal with this for the rest of
my life. Like it is an std or something.
If it wasn't for the smell it wouldn't
be so bad but I will admit that I do miss
certain sexual attentions and my sex life
is really deteriorating because i'm turned
off by myself.
I mean it has it good days and it's bad
days. Today is a very bad day. I've been
on almost everything. My boyfriend
doesn't have it. Was treated when he was
still he didn't have it. I still kept
getting it. It almost seems as if my
doctors don't know much about it
themselves.

do you use a condom? If not that could
probably help out by not mixing and
exchanging bacteria with your man. .
.I'm sorry you have to go through all
that.Can I ask,what symptoms do you
have?Like do you itch at all? What color is
your discahrge?What texture is
it?Slimy,chunky,etc. . .

Yes we do use condoms. I've made sure
that we have been lately although he hates
it. Every once in a while they break
though. I have a strong odor, "fishy"
isn't the word for it but it's
embarrassing because sometimes it comes
through my clothes. I itch a little but
not always. My discharge is a milky gray.
I know I also had a yeast infection with
it because it had that texture to it but
since treated that it's been just the bv.
It seems that if I get yeast it goes away
then I get bv, if I treat for bv it stays
and I also get yeast. They go hand in
hand.
The funny thing is I had yeast like this
for the beginning half of the year and
come august i've had bv. Like it
"upgraded" itself or something.

I Am So Confused About This Whole "bv" Thing! Posted: 11-25-07 19:37pm
I at first went to the Dr. for a serious
lower back ache that radiates around to
the lower right side of my pelvis. I
mentioned to my ob that i think i have a
yeast infections as well. She did a
culture and it came back saying I have BV.
I've researched it online and am totally
freaked out! Every time i search it, it
brings up STD's. So, I've been happily
married so 6 years w/ 3 kids, and if i got
something I'm gonna be pissed! Ok, that
was a joke, but still, all this info is so
scary. I tend to over worry as it is. The
antibiotics she gave me arent working. My
question is I quess, what exactly is BV, I
mean the symptoms? I've read that its just
a really gross discharge and yuck smell.
but i also have extreme irritation. I
mean, girls, horrible! All around the
outside of it. and you can see where it's
irritated. Like, (omg, this is horrible,
I'm a woman and have no idea what to call
our stuff) on the outside, at the top, you
can see a line, not a sore or anything
scary like that, just a thin red line, the
weirdest thing. And it burns and itches,
so does everywhere else. But in everything
i read, those symptoms werent listed. So,
that's that. and they never bothered to
find out why my lower right side back and
pelvis is hurting, but that s really
really starting to get tearfully painful!
I dont know how much more I can take of
this! I wanna go jump in some freakin
yogurt! Any input would be great, really,
this is my
begging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long have you been on the antibiotics?
It can take up to a week for them to start
having an effect you can feel.
The pain is troublesome; I'd go back and
make the pain the primary article of
discussion and don't leave until the gyno
is going to do something about it!

I have read through these messages and
find it funny how many people have posted
on here with out doing their home work....
BV can come from your man and yes if you
are treated and your man is not you will
most likely get it again and again .... It
is not the only cause of BV but should be
the first line of defense if you are with
the same guy. I have never had it till I
separated from my husband of 14 yrs and
got with my boy Friend and well HECK I got
it and the DR treated me and said if it
came back will need to treat him too well
that was stupid i thought because why wait
if I have it and he has it makes since to
treat both up front but he was a man DR
.... of course because then I went to a
woman GYN and well she would of treated us
both at the same time well dang it now I
got it back again and now I have to go in
and him too and get treated this sucks...
but I have years and years of GYN
experience from many years of Fertility
treatments, PCOS and well some personal
issues so I know my way around a
bit....GOOD LUCK YOU all with this
horrible BV issues
