I am a 37 year old woman living with cp. My cp is mild on my left hand side. 1o years ago I fianally accomplished driving a car. I had to go through two doctors to ok my cp in order to enroll in drivers training or I would not be allowd to drive.
I recently went for my exam and I failed my visionsfield test. I can not see any perifial vision (sp)in both eyes on the lefthand side. The doctors now say that they reccomend that I don't drive. I have never been in an acident, never had tickets. Has anyone ever delt with this before that can give me some light at the end of the tunnel I don't want to loose my driver's license

Hi there-

I am a 34 year old female with hemiplegia cp. I have been driving since 17. The cp affects my right side/speech. I have almost perfect vision in my right eye but practically blind in the left. The only issue I have had AFTER I got my license was once when I renewed them, there was a little issue with the eye exam. It was resolved. How is your overall vision?

Hello,

Wow!! this an old post. I am now approaching 42 years of age. I am still driving but with restrictions. My doctors only want me driving in daylight and close to home. This is acceptable for me, rather than not driving at all. My vision is good so far. Hope to hear more about you

Good to hear a reply from you. What kind of cp do you have? I have led a pretty normal life. My parents did a good job of treating me like my brothers growing up. Now, I am married with 2 children of my own. I also run a childcare business out of our home.....I do get frustrated........still.....when I find I am having a difficult time doing a "simple" task. What about you? What do you do? Do you have any other health issues?

Nice to hear back from you too, What kind of cp do I have??? Well all I can tell you is that my doctors always referred it as spastic cp. I do not know the technical name. I can not use my left arm or leg very well. I am sure you can help me out with the proper name. Thanks. My parents did a ok job with me as well along with my 2 brothers. No special treatment for me. LOL. I am married as well. Not sure if I mentioned that or not and I too operate a home daycae. I have been doing it for 21 years now. I hope to retire from daycare in my home this August, and hope o find employment outside my home. Just to give it a try. If it does not work out than I will return to my home daycare. Frustration is normal for those of us who suffer cp and other disabilities. I get frustrated with the little things, like doing up zippers on coats, picking heavyobjects up with my one hand. But for the most part things are good. I do ask for help when neded. That's what keeps me sane. If there is noone around to help than I leave it alone until someonecomes to my rescue. As far as I know I have no other health issues. How about you? You seem to be doing alright, and that's wonderful. Well I must go for now kids are coming in for care now. You have a great day.
