Q: Drug Interactions?

Hey, i'm wondering if anyone can explain the whole drug interaction deal better than the little piece of paper that came with my pills, which uses weird medical names. I'm a bit worried about that "certain antibiotics" part. I woke up yesterday morning with a sore throat, and this morning i've still got that and the beginnings of a headache. I'd like to take something to help me out here, but i'm worried it may interact or something with the pill (i'm on orthotricyclin-lo), since I just started a new pack on sunday and i'd prefer to not have to tell my boyfriend "no sex for a month". Plus, its back to school time...In less than a week he goes back to school here in massachusetts, and the week after I go back to long island for school, and I have no idea when the next time we'll see each other after that, so I would like to be able to have sex at some point in that week that he's at school. So just wondering if there's anything out there that would be safe to take, because I can already tell that this headache is going to be pretty annoying at work today.

In some cases antibiotics can reduce the effectiveness of how your body metabolizes the hormones in your birth control. It is always best to play it safe and either not have sex or use a back-up (why not use a condom for a week?). It's usually best to play it safe while you are on the antibiotics and for a few days afterwards (you don't have to stop for a whole month). As for your sickness.. Sounds like you need to take some ibuprofen and some sudafed to reduce the pressure and give it a few days first..

There's a difference between antibiotics and regular medicine. Let's say you did take the ibuprofen or tylenol or whatever for your sore throat and headache and junk, that won't do anything to your pills and how they work... Those aren't antibiotics. Dayquil and other cold medicines won't do anything to your pills either. They're just temporary symptom relievers. Says so right on the bottle or box or whatever. So you can take your tylenol or whatever and have some sex! You'll be a-ok!
