Q: Missed Pills = Extended Bleeding?

I ran out of my bc perscription (orthotricyclen) and missed a few days as I was getting it filled. My period lasted the entire seven days when I was taking the placebo pills, the three days I didn't have any pills, and now that I am back to taking the pills again, I have been having some breakthrough bleeding. Nothing too heavy, but there is always a little bit of blood when I go to the bathroom.

This has never really happened to me before and I am assuming it is associated to the fact that I was late starting my pack of pills?

Any insight? I am really wondering when this will stop, it is getting frustrating.
