Q: Viral Stomengitis??

My brother came down with a fairly high fever (102.6) last week, and it lasted for a full week. It was accompanied by a very sore throat, aches, chills, swollen gums and lips, and blisters on the inside of his mouth. Someone told my mom it was something called viral stomengitis (i'm not sure on the spelling here) but we can't find any information on this at all. Has anyone ever heard of this? He was absolutely miserable (he's over it now) and my mom is a little curious, just in case any of her other kids get it. She did take him to the doctor, but they didn't do a whole lot, just tested for strep throat (which was negative) and told her to give him tylenol. Any information on this would be great!
