i told my doctor someone had PR for a year and he sort of rolled his eyes at me

yes PR does effect my life, especially when it was pretty bad on my neck and around my chin it looked pretty gross and I would have second thoughts of going out

its winter and still cold so I'm able to cover up and wear a scarf when I go out but its made me very self conscious of my appearance

Condition Update
So I decided not to try tanning. It concerns me because heat is supposed to make PR worse, or at least itch more. Also, like I said, having such fair skin makes me hesitant to fake bake.

Some of my spots are starting to dry out and peel, like little patches of sunburn all over, and they still itch like mad. Does this mean they are going away? I've only had symptoms for 2-3 weeks, so it seems like I shouldn't be getting better already, though that would make me very happy.

Meanwhile I'm using lotion like crazy to try to keep my skin hydrated. It looks pretty bad, especially on my neck, so I too am restricted to long sleeves and scarves.

imtooyoungtodie: haha that's why my local doctor said it isnt pr now it's some other unknown stuff. & the thing is they cant tell me what it is after telling me im having PR for a year. i do have the symptoms of PR herald patch on abdomen then slowly spreading down to my thighs & calves as well as up to my arms & back. i dont have any on my neck or face tho. yeah it's made me self conscious too, but what can we do? ): did the doc prescribe any medicine or lotion for you?

mnelsonielsen: oh hey whr are u from? you know the docs said that pple with fair skin are more unlikely to leave scars, so no worries! (: (: (: i live in spore whr it is hot all year round so wearing long sleeves looks stupid

i also visit another PR forum and i did read of people having this for a very long time like you said for 1 year thats why i brought it up with Doctor and he gave a yeah right type of face but Doctors don't know very much about this

Getting this a 2nd time isn't supposed to happen either yet I've read on forums of people getting it again so Doctors again are just misinformed because lack of studies done for this

The 1st doctor gave me a Anti-biotic but he didn't even know what I had and the Anti-biotics had side effects and did nothing to help me (That was 3-4 weeks ago i stopped taking them)

I'm not taking anything now other than trying to eat healthier, getting more sleep, and sun tanning

first and second week i got this i was so terrified, was hard to sleep, hated the feeling of fear in me and now Its better but i still get scared sometimes ...im a big chicken

Where I'm from...
I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is cold and snowy here right now, so luckily my turtlenecks/long sleeves/scarves fit right in!That is good to hear about fair skin not scarring, I've been pretty good about not scratching lately, and I hope that will help to.
I finish my run of erithromycin (thank goodness) today. I'm wondering if it did help, since now my spots are peeling and some people say the skin shedding is what happens toward the end. I did get PR while taking tetracycline, and would be curious to know if that had anything to do with it.

imtooyoungtodie: haha you're not a chicken im worse i totally freaked out & cried when i 1st saw the patch on my abdomen. my neighbourhood doc couldnt tell me what was wrong either, which kinda convinced me that i was gonna die of this awful unknown disease. yeah i think eating healthy would help since lotsa forums said that this is partly bcos of a virus which attached our immune system? but really, what are the chances of getting this? my family has no history of it, neither do any of my friends got it. this is so freaking unlucky of me to get it out of so many pple.

mnelsonielsen: i dont think tetracycline is a caue of PR.. you're lucky living in a cold city & actually hav an excuse to cover up!! (: btw how old are you? & how long have you been dealing with PR?

PR
That's what my doc said, that it didn't look like a drug rash. However, nona4444 said:

"Don't take an antibiotic for this, it will do more harm than good. It won't kill the virus, but it will kill BOTH the good and the bad flora in your intestinal tract, and the bad flora, being more aggressive, is always the first to grow back (yeast infections, canker sores, acne, allergies and gassiness are telltale signs that you have too much bad "candida" flora - google "candida diet" for more info). And your immune system needs the good flora in order to work! So instead of antibiotics, load up on the good probiotics and take the sweets/alcohol out of your diet to starve out the bad critters."

The interesting thing is I was taking tetracycline for a canker sore, which nona4444 said is another sign of "bad flora." I'm a twenty year old female, and first noticed some itchy splotches on my back on Monday, February 23rd, 2009, so as of today it has been just two and a half weeks.

My hubby had a checkup today at the doctor, and was asking about PR. I guess the skin shedding thing is a sign of getting better, so I'm pretty happy.

I'm headed to Las Vegas next week, expecting eighty degree weather and hoping to do some swimming, so I hope my cheetah spots go away soon!

This is all you gotta do...
I've been rid of PR for about a week now and the marks (I'm light skinned AA) are almost gone.
My immune system was down ( which was the initial cause of my outbreak) So this is what i did ( and a prev post actually gave me step to step directions .... but here is my prognosis).
I started the alkaline diet ( no drinking, smoking(cigs), and no candy . I bought Goldenseal tablets as well as Omniflora N tablets from the german pharmacy ( you do not need a prescription and is sold online for $20 even though you will be charged in Euros) The goldenseal fights virus and the omniflora regenerates the good bacteria in your intestinal tract. Then i took a multivitamin and echinacea tablet each day (as well as currently to keep my Imm sys up to pare). I tanned for the first week after starting my program and the rashes started to peel away...

It took me less than a month to be rid of the rashes and I'm feeling great. I would highly recommend this course of action...

Hi nereida123,
I'm a brownskinned AA that was diagnosed with PR about a week ago, tho I 'd had it for a little longer, not kowing of course. Mine is pretty mild but I do have the spots allo ver my body exceptmy face. Im really thinking about tanning but am afraid of the marks becoming darker thus making me look like a leopard in the end. Did your tanning leave marks?

relief
I followed the protocol from this website: http://www.pityriasisrosearelief.com/

Everything was cleared up in a WEEK.

And no, I'm not in any way affiliated with the website. I promise.

This whole thing has to be cleared from the inside out, and it has to do with helping your liver do its work of filtering stuff from your body.

yes
All the spots cleared, no scarring. There's still a tiny bit of the "herald" patch -- not visible, but I can feel it. But of course, I stopped the protocol after one week. Maybe if I had continued it for another week... Actually, now that I think about it, I'm going to do the protocol for another week. It could only help.

I know quite a lot about naturopathic and herbal supplementation. The regimen she put together makes a lot of sense . It's all about cleansing and purifying from the inside out.

I started to see results in a few days, and like I said it cleared entirely within a week (except for a tiny bit of that herald patch). It might take you more or less time before you see the results you want. Just keep it up. *Be consistent.*

And go easy on the alcohol while you're doing this. Alcohol's a little tough on the liver, and the liver is one of the organs you're trying to clean up (spring cleaning for the body).

Also know that during the week that it was clearing up, it still itched, and was red. Then on about the fourth or fifth day I noticed that it didn't itch and it wasn't red anymore. And the patches were shrinking.

If you have any other questions just ask.

PR Relief
I'm a bit skeptical of anyone that would charge for a relief plan. Having suffered through PR, if I had a for sure way to make it go away I would want to share it for free with everyone.
Anyway, my PR is gone! After only 3-4 weeks my spots continued to shed, which is pretty much like having a sunburn peel, but only on the spots, and now you can only faintly see them. My neck and face are looking great, and I am itch-free. I don't know if it was the antibiotic that did it or what, but it is gone.
Utah's climate is very dry, and I'm wondering if that encouraged the PR to go away? I did go tanning after all, just to try to blend the spots before my vacation, but my spots were peeling at that point so I was already on the mend. Oh, and I don't smoke or drink, but who knows if that has anything to do with it.

this stuff has helped
1. Eat Healthier, whole wheat breads, vegetables, stay away from fast food till your immune system builds up

2. Try anti-dandruff shampoo on skin while showering/bathing ...Selsun blue or Head and shoulders

3. Go tanning or get more sunlight, I've been tanning for about 2 weeks and it improved almost immediately

4. Don't masturbate during this time, masturbation weakens the immune system, i know people say do it lots or whatever but seriously just wait awhile if you can, after touching my dongholio I get really tired afterwards which makes the body work 100x as hard and have to refill up on electrolytes

i had PR too!
i had a PR last february.but still im suffering from it but not like the first one. i'd taken clarithromycin 2x a day and a daivobet ointment everynight.PR is gone in 4 weeks but the problem is it leaves a scar in my legs, im a filipino so my skin is not like you guys! its kind a pigmented and unsightly that why im surfing the net for the cure for the scar. i read zedmed offers scar hyperpigmentation removal cream but they replied to my email that it will not work. i also read that others too experienced the pigmentation. im desperate. im waiting for bioskincare to reply to my email if their product can help me.And guess what, my dermatologist told me that it will coming back because its genetics!!! i really hate it...im not flawless anymore and im feeling self esteem!!!
